Cabela's looks to add location in West Chester Ohio (Southwest Ohio near Cincinnati)

I wish it was here in Northern Kentucky, but this is a good thing for everyone in the surrounding Tristate area of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

Basically according to documents filed with the planning commission, Cabela's plans to build and open a store in West Chester Ohio just slightly North of Cincinnati. Right now, the closest store is in Louisville roughly 100 miles away depending where you are in the Tristate.

".....which would be located at the intersection of Liberty Way and Tylers Place Blvd. in West Chester, according to the proposal. The documents show a 74,000 square foot store located on an 18-acre lot. "

Don't believe it until you see construction start. They had made a deal to build one at the southeast corner of I-65 and County Line Road in Greenwood, Indiana, three years ago. Now (within the last couple of weeks) they announced that they've decided to build it in Fishers (on the north side of Indianapolis), instead.

Bass Pro is said to be building a new store at I75 and Union Center road - just a couple of miles away from this Cabela sight.

The Bass Pro on 275 is an OK store in an empty abandoned rathole former mall and it's planned to be shut down when the new store is done.

The Polaris one is a let down after going to Wheeling, its just so small they don't have a good selection. I end up using it for the free shipping with pick up from store.

The Grand Rapids on they opened last year or so is a let down compared to the Dundee location. Lots of stuff, but the aquarium was disappointing. That's my wife's favorite part, and it isn't enough to distract her while I'm shopping. :)

That's awesome and it's 10 minutes from my house. Bass Pro is building one of it's largest stores right there. It should be opening within 1 year. They already broke ground.

That is great news about the Cabelas. I order quite a bit from them and it would be nice to just go to the store and shop rather than pay shipping. I'm paying sales tax anyway.

Its almost like going to a walmart where you get to choose from the only one of whatever your looking for. Need a pair of cargo shorts, we have this one in stock. Go to wheeling looking for cargo shorts and there will be several brands to choose from.

Everytime I go by the mall in question here I have to stifle a chuckle, it was all the rage and everyone was making such a big deal about it... and now way more than 50% of it is out of business.

Is the West Chester location near the Ikea? Moving to the general area soon, be nice to hang there while the wife shops Ikea.

Living up here in Cleveland I was content when they built the Polaris (Columbus) store. I have kids and grand kids in the Polaris / Worthington area.

Rumor control has it that before the Columbus store was built they were going to build a store up this way in the Macedonia and Northfield area as part of a sports complex. Then one of the involved communities backed out and Cabela's said thanks but no thanks.

When I do large orders of heavy items I have them shipped to the Polaris store and coordinate kids and grand kids visits around my orders. Heck, we may head down this weekend so I'll take some time and visit the Polaris store. Never know what I might find. Then too, there's always those little peanut squares I like. :)

Right now, the closest store is in Louisville roughly 100 miles away depending where you are in the Tristate.

I live out to the east a few miles which makes the Polaris store far closer than the Louisville store. The one they're building will still be over 60 miles from where I live. And for other people in the tri-state it could be a lot farther.

To be honest I'm not all that crazy about the Cabela's stores I've been in. They don't have good prices on things IMO. And they don't have that great of a selection for guns. I suppose if I wanted to dress like the Duck Dynasty crowd it might be a good place to buy clothes. But there's already a Bass Pro shop in the area where they're building the new Cabelas and I don't see a lot of difference between them actually.

I don't think so many big box stores can be supported once the gun salesman in chief leaves office. Gun sales will likely go back to a more normal rate and that means it will be hard to keep so many shops open. There are other fairly big gun shops in that area too including Target World (which isn't that great IMO but it's pretty big). I think Vances in Columbus has those shops beat and I think that several gun shops near where I did live are better places to buy guns. I've gotten far better deals there. I do like the collection of really expensive guns at the Cabelas at Polaris. I can't afford them of course but maybe I'll find one I could buy some day. I have seen Sako rifles at Cabelas too which is something I haven't seen at other shops but I haven't really been to that Bass Pro shop near Forest Park. I've been to other Bass Pro shops though including one in Charlotte that was amazing. I guess it's actually an outlet too or they called it that when I was there more than a few years ago.

Should be checking out the Columbus store this weekend. Have family and a brand new grandson down in Columbus and we are heading down for the weekend. Last trip I couldn't find anything that tripped my trigger in the gun library. That seldom happens. Did see a nice Marlin lever gun (Guide Gun) 45-70 but I don't really hunt much anymore. :)

After they first opened they had better stuff but still every time I go there I see something that makes me drool.

Seems like the one around here has gone downhill...higher prices, worse service. Most of the old-timers have gone and the new crop isn't near as friendly or as helpful. I still visit regularly, but I don't spend near as much money there as I used to. Fortunately, I have a choice of two big-box, one big LGS, and one small LGS right here in town, with two more big-box and three more small LGS within an hour's drive.

We really like those big Cabelas stores. With their impressive diorama of animals in the center of the stores 'mountain' and the giant ceiling along with being one of a kind as the largest gun and outdoor store ever I applaud them.

Cabelas is not only all that but they have good food there. My wife wants to go and mentions Cabelas as she gets lunch there!

I find the clerks there just fine and normal. You get back from folks what you present yourself.

I see guns there in the Gun Library that other shops never have.
