As skinewmexico said,go to Savageshooters.com!
Here is a little info on Savages
model 11's are short action and 111's are long action.308 is short action and 30-06 is long action. If you go and buy a Savage in 308 it will be a short action(model 11) and you can't change it to a 30-06 but you can get a 111 in 30-06 and change it to a 308 but not sure how it would feed with the longer bolt travel.
Savage models with a 2 number model # are short actions(10,11,12,14,and 16) and the ones with 3 #'s are long actions(110,111,112,114,and 116)But there is also a 110 action that I think was made in the early 70's that is inbetween in lenght and you may want to stay away from them, they are called J actions.Bolt faces can be changed and if you ever swap back and forth with a 223 I think firing pins may also need to be changed.
A lot of people have become addicted to Savages because it is so easy to swap calibers and there are a lot of different stocks out there to match what ever barrel weight and action lenght you put together.Pluss the accuracy is right up there with the big money guns.
