The wife's folks were master garage and estate sales shoppers. I've a few treasures he (she leaned towards quilting stuff, he towards guns and tools) found at those sales.

Best I've done was NIB MEC 650 in 28 Gauge for $25.00 eleven boxes of factory 28 gauge for $4.00/box and five bricks of 22 Short for $8.00/brick.

Greg

PS: Did I mention the Dillon 550, Dillon Fl-2000 tumbler(never used) , three caliber conversions and die sets, a new RCBS scales, 3 pounds of powder, 1000 223 bullets, four tool heads and about 15 boxes of shot shell and pistol ammo for $100.00?

About 8 years ago I got a Savage 24 .22 MAG/.410 for $30.00 at a yard sale. The woman said it had belonged to her EX and wanted to rub it in that she had sold it so inexpensively as a payback. I asked then if she would take a dollar but she wanted to buy a steak dinner with the profits. BTW it shoots well and I love it so well I have purchased a couple other variations to use. Congrats on your good fortune.

Shoulda then asked if you could still purchase it for a dollar and take her out for a steak dinner :D

I was just leaving a gun shop a few months ago when a guy comes in asking if they bought primers. He said no, so I asked what he had and what he wanted. Well I guess Grandpa passed away and it was his job to clean out the gun room. He sold me 3,000 Rem 91/2 primers for $30.00. I told him that a 1,000 sold new for that price, but he said he just wanted to get rid of them so I picked them up.

I was talking to another forum member on another forum when he found out I was graduating from college this week he said he said he would just give me the bullet mold he was offering to sell me. Makes great 44 cal bullets for my .444 and 44 mag.:D

I think that if I had made that offer my wallet would have had a melt down and all I could have done was watch her waggle her severely made up lips as they complained about how the entire world was mistreating her continuously. I found that by listening to her complain to the other onlookers as I browsed for a short time.:barf: I actually felt sorry for the poor guy.

Not a firearm, but about five years ago I stopped by a garage sale here and saw a nice knife on the table that looked kinda interesting. ;) Guy said his uncle had died and left a bunch of "junk" to him and he was getting rid of it. Guy wanted $30.00 for it, so I gave it to him.

It was a Randall # 1, 6" blade in outstanding condition, with sheath and stone.

Seemed like a good deal to me, at the time. :D

Very old Remington .41 Rimfire derringer at a garage sale for $15. They told me it was a "non-working replica". Wrong.

Do you still have the Remington?
That would be great to have.
Do you or have you ever shot it?
I think that has to be the best sweet deal so far.

The PD I work for cleaned out the gun safe of all the confiscated and surrendered handguns and offered them to the officers for $50 a piece. I got 4 guns for $200 including 2 slightly rusty old style Colts, a DS and an Agent.

Gordy:

No, I don't still have the Remington .41 RF derringer. Within 24 hours of buying it, it magically got turned into one of the first S&W Model 629 44Mag revolvers to be manufactured.

Speaking of knives - I went to an estate sale a few years ago. It was one of those where the heirs hire somebody to put it on.
I didn't see anything I wanted and was about to leave when I spied a "junk" box off to the side. I went thru it and found a Puma folder with a loose blade. I bought it for a dollar. Sent if off to Puma and they sent me a new one. This wasn't one of the high-dollar Sambar handled ones but was still a nice knife.

I had a topper in 20 ga. and it kicked like a mule. About half the time I would end up with the foregrip detached in my hand! It was a Topper Junior as I recall. I never could understand what genious thought that knocking a kid out with recoil was a good way to break them in!
