What to start with !?!?!

How about 357mag with 158 gr LSWs and Power Pistol in 7.6 gr and 8.3 gr.

And 327 mag with 100 gr XTPs over 14.7 gr of Lill gun.

That would be a good place to start as long as you post your results.

You should have known better than to tell us you got a chrony and flaunt it under our noses.

You could always do what a friend did. His wife bought a high end chrono for his birthday and he promptly put the first shot thru the brains of the unit. Needless to say his fellow shooters haven't let him forget.

What to start with???

NOT SCOPED RIFLES, THEY'RE THE BANE OF A CHRONYS EXISTENCE!!!

LOL - don't ask me how I know

I have use of a chrony for some time !

What to start with !?!?!

The only real use of a crony that I can think of is to get velocities for long rang rifles. This lets you plug the data into a ballistic program to figure MOA or MIL click setting for any distance. With a good program such as LoadBase 3.0, you can even figure out the holdover values for tactical, and B&C reticules. Wind drift and many other variables can be accounted for as well.

If you are good, this will allow you to put your first round on target, like a sniper or a competition shooter.

Otherwise, just look at the published velocities, energy, TOF, etc. in the manuals or manufacturers web data. My buddy and I will be shooting a couple hundred rounds (collectively) of 300 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, 308 Win, and 270 Win through a crony on Friday.

They are great tools. Public ranges can be a real PITA to use them though.

The first rule of Crony Club.... don't shoot the crony!

Cronys are great for sanity/safety checks. If you're getting 200 fps more than any published load, then you probably need to back it off a bit. No, sorry, you didn't discover some unique magical combination of powder, seating depth, and crimp that allows you to bypass the laws of physics.

I think I'm going to start with some easy 44 loads I've been using for awhile.

Then I'll progress to 45, 30 carbine, and the rest of my rifles.

I'll do my steel loads for geese this fall first in shotgun if the vanes in this thing are wide enough, and go down my list of loads from there.

Its a Chrony brand...... any hints on usage from those who have them ( other than not shooting it ? )

Keep it out of the sun, it likes shade, some put theirs in a cardboard box if it's real sunny, if the light is straight overhead it works best, early morning or late evening slanting sun rays drive them crazy and even with the screens.

Make sure you set it up at max distance, muzzle blast can wig it out too. If you can find small wooden dowel rods use them to hold the screens that way if you shoot them it won't knock the Chrony off the stand.

I like to use a steel retractable measuring tape to set the distance to the unit you can place one end under your sand bags and run the other out to the unit, then you can see if the tape is level and set the distance above the sky screens, it not only helps to get the distance but it keeps you from shooting the unit.

Mine is a good unit even though it's a little light sensitive, I've shot arrows, pellets, handgun and rifle ammo over it but I wouldn't trust my shot gunning skills !
