Ive read the post what is the most accurate battle rifle out of the box and was interested in the answers. The finnish Moison and the Swiss K31.Has anyone completely worked over either of these rifles. From a good cleaning ,refinish to a sporter conversion?

I have a K31 and a K11. Both are 7.5x55.
I'm not sure what you're asking by having "worked them over", but I cleaned up and refinished (with linseed oil) my K31. That was all it needed. I haven't done anything to the 1911.
Both of these fine rifles will shoot at least as well as I can.
Ammo is still available enough.
I don't think you would be disappointed if you give one a try.

I did a bit of work to my Mosin before I sold it and got it down to about 1" at 100 yards, but with the mods it was the ugliest rifle I'd ever seen. I'd say go with a K-31. It is a much nicer gun with a better trigger and action and just has great classic lines. Also the surplus ammo is very close to match grade, while the Mosin surplus isn't that great when it comes to accuracy.

Edit: my Mosin was a Russian Tula, not a Fin.

I have several Mosin Nagants, Finn, that I did nothing to except change the ammo that will shoot one inch or better at 100 yards. I did install scout scopes on them, old eyes. The Swiss rifles have a trigger to die for.....chris3

Yes, I have a K-31. I "worked it over" by giving it a basic cleaning, steaming out a couple of stock dents, and giving it a couple of coats of oil finish.

With Swiss surplus GP-11 ammo it has shot true 1" groups off the bench, with the iron sights, at 100 yds. I can't see nearly well enough to do that, so the rifle has amazing potential. I'm sure someone, somewhere has "sporterized" one. I hope I never, ever meet that guy. Seriously, the rifle is as close to perfect as such a thing could be. It cannot be improved by any application of hacksaws.

There are a few tricks for accurizing the K31, fitting the front hand guard and band. The steel pillar the action rests on is available in different thickness. The FCG is a work of art and can be tuned.

The majority of these rifles are very accurate in military trim. GP11 surplus is a match grade load.

There are several different aftermarket sight setups for these. You can scope these with the SP clamp on mount. It is a solid mount with a slight offset for ejection.

The top K31 has a SP brake, scope mount and recoil pad adapter. The other two have after market sights.

I've owned both the K-31 (still have three in fact) and the Mosin; 91/30's and an M39. Absolutely no comparison in my experience. Even unaltered some of the K-31's that have passed through my hands are more accurate than some of my production scoped centerfire bolt rifles.

Some 100 yd. targets from unaltered K-31's:

Now for the "worked over" K-31, a '53 model. I did some work on this one so I could use it in our local High Power matches. Bedded it, worked on the trigger and most importantly, put some sights on it that I could see. In retrospect, the bedding was probably unnecessary. Be that as it may, the rifle is extremely accurate and capable of much more than I. Initially I mounted a cheap Williams peep sight on it and left the original front sight:

I later mounted a Lyman 48 then finally found a way to mount a Redfiled Palma sight on the rear and Lyman 17 on the front:

I shoot 99% cast out of this rifle and she's embarrased more than one AR competitor at our High Power matches.

Part of the beauty of these rifles is the fact that the surplus Swiss ammuntion is amazingly accurate, easily rivaling my most carefully assembled handloads, and at a little over 50¢ per round, it's relatively inexpensive.

You guys are making me want to haul my K31's to the range now!

These folks make great products, but don't sell to the public. You'll have to get them from Brownell's or another distributor. There's links here to other sites, especially some great leather goods for the rifles. http://www.swissproductsllc.com/

as long as mine can keep ringing that 6" steel plate at 150 yards with my plinkin' loads, I figure it won't need anything fancy. :)

But I will admit that the peep sight rig was VERY nice...
