Swiss surplus bayonets

cheaperthandirt.com has an amazing bargain on Swiss milsurp bayonets, and I just got one. I'm really impressed - seems like good steel, good handle, good sheath, and good design. They're so cheap (under $10) that I'm tempted to get several of them for throwing knives or Christmas presents - am I missing something here??

And they do have a quick-release bayonet latch, so it would be easy to make a spear mount for one of these - has anyone played around with this? The only practical use I can think of would be for fishing -- is any form of spear hunting good sport?

These are made of a very hard stainless, and make excellent fighting knives.

I made up one recently that looks like a Applegate-Fairbairn with a 7" blade.

I bought one of these a little while back. It's been an abuse blade ever since. On camping trips I've used it for throwing, as a tent stake (bad night), and recently, I've been trying to figure out a way to stick it on my HD Mossy. Would probably make a great makeshift spearhead.

The only problem I have with the setup is with the sheath. The metal thing at the mouth of it is made of metal.. I guess it keeps tension on the blade so it doesnt fall out, but it also does a nice job of dulling the length of the blade (on one or both sides) when you pull it out in a less than precise fashion.

Which one? I have seen at least two inexpensive Swiss bayonets. One made a pretty decent fighting blade, while the other had a metal handle, with a piece of metal sticking out at an angle...

I have one- agree it's a nice knife at a bargain, but nearly impossible to sharpen no matter what I try. Must be the world's hardest stainless. If anyone can suggest a way to sharpen it, let me know.
