There's a post in the general handgun section about another user with a jammed XD. I have had the same issue with Ultramax lead bullets and my own lead reloads in my XD.

Factory FMJ and TMJ have worked fine in both of my XDs.

So, would you knowledgeable specimens happen to know if the problem is the lead, or the reloader(me)?

In my case I had 15 out of 250 of the Ultramax jam, and maybe 10 out of 300 of my own reloads jam.

The COL is under specs of the Speer manual, and much shorter than WIN, REM, or Fiocchi rounds.

I'm using an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme kit and a RN die.

Thanks folks.

Load the same bullet shape to the same OAL as the factory load that works, and there should be no difference in function.

Loading "shorter" is a surefire way to make any load not work in a lot of guns.

Unless something specific to the XD feed ramp is cutting into the lead bullet and causing a stoppage, they should work.

Feedway jams occuring at a change in ammunition are usually due to differences in bullet shape and OAL.

Failures to return to battery with the slide nearly closed are usually due to the typically larger diameter of cast bullets versus jacketed.

Do you gauge or chamber check your reloads to be sure they will go in the chamber if they feed up the ramp?

I have a XD45. The throat is very tight. Even factory TAP ammo is hard to extract. It has had part of a box of FMJ through it and several boxes of TAP. The rest have all been my cast bullets.
I went to a Lee 230 TC bullet to use for it. I do load it slightly shorter then 1.200 but don't have any here in front of me. It still feeds great in my Commander at that length.
The only way I was able to get some of the round nose to return to battery every time was to try the Factory Crimp Die. But leading and accuracy problems came up with that.
If it ever gives me a problem or I stop carrying it everyday I think I will do a throat job on it so I can shoot anything in it.

I did about 150 chamber checks last night and about 15 didn't sit like the factory loads.

I couldn't fire any because it was late and I didn't want any LEOs stopping by.

I'm thinking it's not the XD because I had extraction issues with my Para with the same rounds.

Def the diameter, I just didn't know if it was me or the lead.

Thanks for the opinions.

What style of bullet jammed? My XD-45 will shoot anything EXCEPT semi-wadcutters!, In the XD the rim of the fired round will catch on the shoulder of the SWC and hang up; JHP, RN, and TC all feed fine. Also check your magazine, a bad spring or bent lips can cause jams. I clean my mags every 500 or so rounds (drop the baseplate, spring and follower, clean with CLP and reassemble- takes 2 minutes!). Kept clean my XD has 4K rounds thru her (and excepting SWC) NO ftf or ftes :what:

Taktikel - they were RNs. I ran about 16 through last night that passed the chamber check and they worked fine. I checked 1 that didn't pass chamber check and wouldn' ya' know, it jammed.

I have a S&W 457 and some of the lead loads will FTL, no problems with FMJ or plated. I guess the next step I will try will be to run the bullets through the sizer to make them more uniform. I also found out that all of my aftermarket mags were responsible for the same problem with all types of ammo, factory mag never a problem.

Are you saying the solution is to size the bullet smaller to match jacketed, or does the solution lie elsewhere?
