I'm probably getting too hung up on this subject, but it's kind of a fun one.
I'm assembling a small emergency kit to put in the buttstock of my Marlin 336RC 30-30. Thinking small knife, fishline, hooks, Sunto button compass, maybe a small whistle. Nothing more than a couple ounces.
Another THR member said that his father had a buttstock for his hunting rifle, in which one screw was standard, and the other screw replaced by some sort of push button.
In event of emergency, a twig could be used to push in the button, and the buttplate would swivel away to reveal the small hole drilled in the stock, w/ extra ammo and emergency gear.
Leaving aside, momentarily, the issue of whether such a kit if totally redundant: anyone know where I can find such a buttplate?
