When shotguns are discussed, the issue of stock fit usually comes up. I'm a stainless and plastic kinda guy, so when I finally get around to acquiring a couple of scatterguns (an 870 and an 11-87 probably), I'll want to put synthetic stocks on them. Forget about mentioning the factory units that come with synthetic stocks, I'm left-handed.

So anyway, the pad of choice seems to be the Pachmyer Decelerator, and if I need to shorten the buttstock, which synthetic stocks are easily modified?

I personally like short stocked guns, both shotgun and rifle. Problem is, seems most of the rest of the world doesn't. Not good for me. I would rather just have a butt plate on my guns rather than a recoil pad, this seems to be even worse. What I have found talking to my gunsmith is, you need to cut and epoxy a piece of wood that will fit in the hollow of the stock and align with the holes in the pad or butt plate. Then you can mount the pad or plate and grind to fit. He says he does this all the time with good results. I'm in the process of doing this to my Savage Scout. Of course, its on a long list of "in the process of's" :)
