I have a stock Yugo SKS which I really like and plan to keep that way but ye gods is it heavy. I was thinking of getting a cracked stock SKS cheap and dropping into one of those synthetic aftermarket stocks. I know some of you have tried this, what was your experience?

I absolutely hated that side folding one. Really made the LOP outrageously long.

Not sure on the others. One note, to make it legal you'll have to add a certain number of American made parts, I believe 9-10 more?

I think chris might be referring to the ATI Ultra Light (originally Combat Exchange) folding stock, which I also briefly tried. It didn't reduce weight, but it shifted the center of gravity towards the front. I ditched that stock very quickly.

I have a choate dragnouv stock and I really like it...lightweight, strong, comfortable and just plain feels good. I am not a fan of aftermarket items but this stock came cheap and I wholeheartedly reccommend it. It is adjustable but fits my beater yugo best. My buddy has a butler creek monte carlo and it is nice but too heavy for me.

I have the Dragunov style stock. It takes a little filing here and there to get it to fit but it's decent. Im happier with it than without it.

my russian sks I got from my dad had one of the ATI "Monte Carlo" stocks he had put on it.It actually looked pretty nice, was lighter, and pretty darn comfortable.I took the stock off and sold it though as the origonal Russian stock for it was totally MINT, as is the rest of the gun, so I wanted back all origonal.Heres a pic of it with the synthetic ATI stock:

get on that keyboard of yours and type in "TAPCO". you'll be glad you did. IMHO the best aftermarket stock made for the SKS.
