tac powder in .223

As a side-line. I plan to load for .223 and I have LC brass, Fed match primers, TAC powder and will use either Barnes or Sierra 62gr bullets. The rifle is a S&W MP15 with a 1:9 twist. Should I purchase and use a small base or standard .223 set of dies? I plan to buy RCBS dies. Thanks

I have never needed small base dies. All of my AR-15's have min spec match chambers too. It all depends on how well your gun is tuned. If over gassed and pulling them out under high pressure is going to give them more stretch.

I like TAC and use it to load a lot of plinking rounds in .223. The one thing that I have noticed with TAC is that there is a really wide range of loads that people reload with. I use 23.1 gr with 55 gr FMJ. This load is on the light side but I still get 1 - 2 or 2.5 inch groups which works fine for plinking plus a get a few more round out of a pound of powder. And I have never had an issue cycling them through multiple ARs.

I use small base but I also pick up alot af range brass and since its not "fireformed" thru my chamber I want to make sure it works in my rifles

I have worked up loads with Hornady 62gr FMJ and Hornady 62gr HPBT from MidSouth Shooters using TAC from beginning loads to max loads and I can't say that I ever found a load that would not shoot reasonably. Certainly there are some that shoot much better than the rest but I can't say I found one that was just junk.

With an old Savage model 10 bolt gun everything I loaded would shoot at least 3" groups at 100 yards.

went to the range today to try my tac ladder but can't say it was a good day. Temp was triple digits and after the trip to the range in the trunk of the car the rifle was already warm, so was the ammo. first couple of strings were showing promise of good grouping but the barrel wouldn't cool down. After the third rung the rounds were starting to cook off as soon as they hit the chamber, needless to say unintentional 'double taps' didn't group very well (or leave a good impression with the RO) however I did learn that my tac loads with 55/60 grain bullets grouped better than heavies in my rifle.
