I've got limited funding (don't we all? :( ) and I want to mount a red-dot and a forward vertical grip on my Chinese MAK-90. I'm looking at getting the forward grip here:

Add to this a Simmons 30mm red-dot sight from either Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops.

I'm a machinist, so I believe that I can make a stock and two pistol grips easily enough.

Any ideas or other econo accessories I can take a look at?

Just keep in mind that it's a post-ban gun. To put a stock and pistol grip on it you'll need to get other US parts so it is 922 compliant.

Do yourself a favor and dont buy cheap stuff. It may seem like a deal at first, but in the long run, it will end up costing you more when it fails or doesnt work as expected. I'm speaking from experience here. I learned the hard way to just knuckle down, cry once, and get the best I really cant afford. If I had the money back I spent on the cheap stuff that didnt work, I'd have a couple of more of whats listed below.

The best forward rail for the AK's is the Ultimak, and the best set up is an Aimpoint mounted on top of it, as it will cowitness with the iron sights. This allows the rifle to shoulder and shoot just like it does with the iron sights only and is very fast and natural to shoot with. The Aimpoints are waterproof, will hold up to abuse, and have the longest battery life of any of them. 1-9 years constant on, depending on model. I dont even turn mine off anymore and just change them out once a year with the smoke detectors.

The quad-rail from UTG was originally for airsoft, but it's good quality aluminium. For a MAK you need the oversize one, MAK's have larger barrel diameters. UTG 479 is the correct model number.

If you want to keep your existing handguard, then I'd recommend the UltiMak forward mount. It isn't quad-railed and it's a tad more difficult to mount but it also has a lower line of sight.

For 922(r) compliance, TAPCO has a kit with everything you need.

Vertical foregrips on most AK's interfere with mag changes if you're using 30-round mags.

They can, but it depends how far forward you place the grip. I am 6'5" and am therefore able to put the grip far enough forward to have absolutely no problems with the 30 rounders.

I have a HSLD Tango Down on my WASR, and it has given me absolutely no problems at all:

MAK-90's are nice AK rifles.
They're also getting harder to come by, so think carefully before you modify it too much. Definitely keep the original parts if you do modify it.
I'm assuming you have the thumbhole stock on it now?

BTW, I've never done this, but I have seen many picture of people using the magazine as a forward grip. No idea if that's a good idea or a bad idea.
