Is this a good trade for a Norinco MAK-90 NIB?

I've got the following up for sale/trade locally:

http://floridaguntrader.com/index.php?a=2&b=82720

CZ-75B satin/nickel, Kadet conversion kit, mags.

A guy offered me a NIB Norinco MAK-90 "pre-ban" (whatever that may mean) ??

Fair trade?

I've been looking for an AK for awhile and was about to pull the trigger on a SGL-21 from AIM Surplus, new, for $740.

I like the fact that the SGL has a side-mount rail, but I assume I could either get one put on the MAK-90 or find another way to mount a dot sight, correct?

If I do get the MAK-90, how easy is it to replace the rear stock/pistol grip?

I would take the trade if the guy offered an extra $150-200 with the MAK-90. One thing to be careful of is that some MAK-90s only accept single stack mags. If this is the case, you can take a dremel to the inside of the magwell and widen it up to accept double stack mags.

Another thing to take into consideration is to much accessorizing, (like changing out the thumbhole stock and adding a pistol grip) and now you have to deal with being 922r compliant. Be sure to check your local laws about the subject.

By the way, nice pistol!

NO Mak 90 ever came as a single stack.

Some WASR 10s are single stack. In fact that is what the "10" designates, that they were manufactured to accept 10 rd single stack magazines.

Mak 90 is not a generic nickname for an AK 47 type rifle. That is the specific name of a rifle that was imported from China with a thumbhole stock, no bayonet lug and non threaded barrel. No Chinese AKs have been imported since a Clinton executive order in the early 90s.

They are a far superior rifle to the WASR 10 and $550 is a good fair price.

922 rules do apply, if you want to put any furniture on it other than that made for a Chinese rifle you have to modify the wood since MAK 90 recievers are made with slightly thicker sheet metal than European models.

I have two MAK 90s and they are high quality AK47s type rifles. I think you'll also find the thumbhole stock very comfortable. I like mine a lot. Worth about $500 I'd say in todays market, maybe around $700+ at the height of the Obama scare, depending on condition.

I also have several CZ75s. Great pistol. With the kadet kit you're looking at around $600ish.

I'd say it's pretty close to an even trade... really depends on what you want it for, whether you'll use either more, etc.

Both are great weapons that serve different roles.

After a quick search on google, it appears like the only double stack MAK-90s are the Chinese ones. All the other MAK-90s (Such as Romanian and Yugoslavian) are single stack.

But in this case, the OP is about the Chinese model, so he should be fine.

MAK-90's were NEVER MADE in Romania or Yugoslavia, or anywhere OTHER than China. The MAK-90 is a specific AK varient, not a generic term for Kalashnikov (AK-47 type) rifles. You seem to be confused on your terminology

i think its a good trade considering, you would never see another chinese ak making it to our shores anymore. the chinese aks are my favorite variants of the others offered. but the cz pistols will be here for a long time. and for sure its not a pre-ban, as the name Modified AK of 1990,(MAK90) post-ban. where whatever chinese aks were stuck in customs at the time were modified as sporter rifles, no more bayonet lugs, threded barrels no more full stock with pistol grips etc.. so they stuck on the thumbhole stock, to clear customs.

Again, ALL MAK 90s are Chinese. Calling all AKs a MAK 90 is like calling all cars Mustang.
