Fighting Pistol Day 2

Today started off in the gear store and we stayed there for the whole morning up until the lunch break. That sounds like a long time to be in a class room setting at a "fighting" course, but i assure you the classroom time was well worth it, as well as alot of great info was shared that i believe is key to anyone who carries to hear.

classroom time covered mindset, tactics, the other "t's" in F.A.S.T.T, use of deadly force was covered, the three aspects that are needed to justify the use of deadly force. Which was the best bit of info that i took from the class and something that i really needed. As well as what to say to the police and the 911 dispatch. legal issues were covered too.

shoot to stop a threat.

get a lawyer

knives are more dangerous than people think, and they should be taken seriously, as they are a true threat even to us that are armed.

Distance is an advantage to trained shooters, at bad breath distance trained and untrained shooters are equal so get distance.

you are responsible for every round that leaves your gun, make hits and make them count.

like i said the time in the class was awesome covering issues that i haven't been exposed to in the past and it was much appreciated that it was in the course. Thanks to Allen for good lectures, and keeping things exciting.

Now for the range time. Today was another great day at the range and as far as i know there were no issues with any guns. My Xd ran like a champ no issues throughout the day, and there were no mag issues today for me either.

Drills covered on the range included, shooting behind cover, prone, kneeling, and standing, as well as moving to cover foward and backwards. The infamous allen dots. Shooting form retention and gaining distance was covered, from guared, one hand and 2 handed retention positions. The "weaver" drill as i call it in and out of cones foward backwards, left to right and right to left were covered. Inert rds were used for the majority of this day of training as well, to ingrain that type one malfunction clearance into our heads even more.

Again I will say that this is an awesome course and a course that is a must have for anyone that carries a gun, no matter where, when or how, this courses class room time is worth the tuition in itself, and the range time makes the class even better. I am guessing that i fired 750-850rds in the 2 days of fighting pistol.

Thanks to Jay, Allen, and John, they are all great instructers, and they all had a great sence of humor and made the class fun, exciting, but at the sametime insured that everyone got everything out of the class that they needed, and were quick to make adjustments to the students. I can't wait for advanced fighting pistol to start tommorow.

more to follow.
