What is the goal of the training? "Fighting carbine" and "3-Gun Rifle" have some overlap but the focus is different. And usually neither works for general familiarity.
I have never been, but many consider the Appleseed events to be good for Intro to Marksmanship. There is an event near Davilla.
Otherwise, what GEM said. The Bullethole has 3-gun matches occasionally (typically, an AR, shotgun, handgun); next one is July 19. Texas Tactical carbine matches are IDPA-ish, and would be a great starter.
Got done with the Combat Focus Fundamentals and am sending my wife through the Concealed Handgun Class this weekend. They're over at Memorial Shooting Center on Witte Rd. Great guys that instruct, real professional.

There are a ton of instructors based or offering classes in Texas.
Between September and November, besides the guys [like us] who have facilities, Tom Givens, Andy Stanford, SouthNarc, Ken Hackathorn and John Farnam will all be offering classes in Texas.
There's also a fairly active training group meeting in Bastrop once a month.
