What is a good tactical scope with andjustable windage/ elevation turrets for a remington 700/ m40 rifle? I would be willing to spend around a grand and would like to be able to hit animals in the mountains and 1,000 yrd objects :)

You need to give more info , price range & distance you plan to shoot. The more you can afford the nicer the scope.

Take a look at the IOR Valdada 3-18x42 has a 30mm tube great scope. Thats what I have on my .308 Remington LTR w/ Badger 20moa base. Check out Scott at Liberty Optics.

you know, those tacticool knobs aren't much good in thick brush. they tend to get turned by branches and twigs and such. but if your in more open terrain i say go for it. +1 for leupold

The Sightron SIII 6-24x50 LR MD scopeis hard to beat for price and quality. It has ultra clear glass. They run around $775 and are very hard to find. They sale out in a few weeks after they are imported. Most places have waiting list For them. Sightron will be getting more in from Japan in August and will be sending them out to their dealers.

Here is a good review test with Photos:
