Just received the new blade magizine and in the readers respond segment someone suggest that we all stop using the term ''tactical'' knife and instead use "saftey'' knife therefore making it difficult to ban. Given there are many saftey features on nearly all modern knives ( locks, guards,lanyards... ) this seems to be a decent idea. One hand opening will still be hard to explain, but serrations will now be considerd ''seat belt cutters'' and therefore less ''threatening'', ''bone crushers'' now "glass breakers" and so on. I'm gonna give that guy some credit for thinking up the most simple and easily deployed anti-knife defensive strategy. Now to convince the knife companies, because, like it or not, sales will drop, untill the idea cacthes on that is. Who agrees with me and mr. Garrad?

Blade issue, may 2007,readers respond, ''saftey'' vs. ''tactical'' knife?

You best cut a seat belt by pulling it away from your/they're body and putting tension on it to help the blade part the material when it contacts it. Opening the knife with one hand while you do all the rest with the other may provide the precious moments needed to save a life.

Very true, I've cut a few seatbelts for knife tests, pretty easy, CS L&S rescue can cut five at a time. I mean hard to explain to ''athorities'', not telling them its for combative use.
