I was talking to someone about this and can't resist. I love the gunstore/gunrange commandos. They have the vests, camo, jack boots, knives and guns strapped everywhere. Usualy they are better armed than your average marine.:D

So really if you think about it this is a fashion statement. Like the BMX/skateboard guys who wear hooded sweatshirts, or the metro sexual guys who wear button down shirts and $200 jeans.

Naturaly they mostly have AR's with 10 pounds of crap stuck on the rails.

The image has been around for a long time as a humorous look at silliness of hanging lots of "accessories" from every possible attachment point on an AR. Obviously, no one would actually do "this".

Think of it as a "Leggo" gun. You can build something really good with the basic parts, but you can get downright impractical if you just have to use the whole box of bits.

Yes, I absolutely agree that anyone who ever attaches any sort of accessory to an AR15 is obviously a mall ninja who's incapable of even rudimentary marksmanship. Truly one gag image that's been circulating the internet for the better part of a decade is indicative of an entire subculture of shooters.

Perhaps next we can have a thread about how all hunters are backwoods hicks and fudds.

As anti gadget, gizmo, toy stuck on to your gun as I am, there is an obvious need for it the more specialized arena of practical weapons usage.

Some people tack things to their quad rails for a special purpose and others tack things to their quad rail to look like they have special purposes.

Isn't that what the 'hunting' venue is for?

In all seriousness, though, i've found that the guys at the range who look like they got some zombie-intel that i didn't, are generally nice dorks who are eager to learn more about our sport.....last time i was at the range i helped one tighten up his groups considerably by telling him how an A2 sight works; he had been using his night sight.

OP, please search for the mall ninja thread.
Let's not bring that crap back :banghead:

This firearm owner elitism can dissapear for all I care.

Well said.

Although I really WOULD like to find a rail mounted beverage holder.

Someone was making one for a while but I haven't seen them in a long time.

TR,

Herogear makes it. Someone cleverly decided to mod the mug to find it in the dark.

I saw that thing. I think it costs more than the rifle :)

No the one I saw was one of those old wire basket can holders like you used to find on boats, with a swivel to keep it upright. That was attached to a rail mount.

It was very trailer trash looking, which of course is why I want it :)

I am doing my part to combat this. The only time I don't wear my M-65 field jacket is when I am going to the gun store or the range.

I also sport empty rails on my rifle, just to show it can be done.

:D

Maybe physically, but not mentally :p

I like to wear hooded sweatshirts, especially in the fall/spring. Sometimes I wear button down shirts with my $25 jeans. Sometimes I wear a buckskin colored carhart jacket and a snow hat. Sometimes I just feel lazy and it's sweater and sweatpants/gym shorts for the day.

What label you got for me?

I don't know. I wear button-down shirts for tactical reasons. The collar doesn't interfere with a good gun mount.

In all seriousness, I've had a shotgun snag on my collar. Now if I'm at the range or hunting, and I'm wearing a collared shirt, I make sure the collar is button-down style. Solves the problem.

I like collars because they keep the sun and the cold wind off my neck. I've had both bad sunburn and nasty windburn there.:)

So I guess my clothes are "tactical" even if my guns tend not to be.
