hey guys well i have had a pretty bad season i have a couple weeks to hunt but it is unlikely i will be able to take advantage of it so i will most likely eat tag soup is anyone other than myself doing the same here..if so i feel your pain:)

Two days after taking a nice doe on opening weekend, I tripped in my living room and broke my kneecap. So no hunting during muzzleloader season this year!

We will have to stretch the one table trophy out to avoid tag soup. It's gonna be difficult because my wife is a great cook and this doe is very tasty!

I've been reading The High Road forums more thoroughly during recuperation. Enjoyable, but not quite the same as being in the woods.

I got two bucks this year, but nothing last year. So I know the feeling! How does the tag system work? One deer per tag? If so can hunters apply for more once they've filled their tag?

Regulations vary from one state to another, and many times the harvest limits vary from one county to another within one state.

In Missouri, each hunter can purchase one tag for his choice of buck or doe (an "any deer" tag) then purchase additional tags for does. Some counties limit the number of extra doe tags that can be purchased, others don't.

Not me this year, but for the previous 6-7 years i did. I hunted harder last year than I ever had in my life. And i didn't hunt for a few years before that so i am just getting back in the swing of things. Its nice to have venison in the freezer!

Another year of tag soup for me too. There is a 4 day antlerless season starting New Years day and my unfilled tags are still good but, "surprise", I'll have to buy a new license to hunt with them.

Well, I've never had venison tag soup but I can tell you that elk tag soup is quite delicious given that the tag is such a delicacy.

When preparing it, I like onions, carrot, celery, garlic, and ditalini pasta. I also like to simmer my controlled hunt application receipts for a little extra flavor.

My failures and successes come in bunches.2 years no deer, last year 2 doe and a 6 point buck. This year no deer.Over many years about 65 deer with dry spells.

I seem to go in spurts. A few years of "tag soup", then a few years of bagging at least one, sometimes as many as four. This year I'm eating last years deer.

man i cant imagine elk tag soup but i did like your ideas i think it could work with last years unfilled turkey tags lol

Thanks to my lovely job I don't have time to hunt much anymore... only got out to the woods 4 times or so this year.

Any recommendations on how long to boil the tags?

Tag soup for me this year. One tragedy after another out hunting, even though I had plenty of time to hunt. Looking down to see my k98 with the bolt open with round ejected, just before I crest the hill and see 9-10 elk....

one of those years. Saw plenty of nice deer, but no deer tag. Even ended up losing one of my boots on one such excursion walking out of the back country barefoot. Spent the night on a cliff, pants frozen in a solid block of ice in the morning, and one boot fell off into the abyss over night.

At least I have gotten a couple squirrel, but completely skunked with big game.

I buy the tags for two reasons, one to help out with the state wildlife funds, and the other is the possible privileged of getting a trophy buck on my own property. Well I guess one other, I get the super combo which includes the fishing and everything else. So hogs also fall into this, and if I want meat I would much rather shoot up the hog population in our area than the deer.

I saw some really nice young bucks who if they make it through a few more seasons will be wall quality for sure. Hopefully they will. It was a pure pleasure to watch them do their thing and to put the sneak on them a couple of times getting within 30-40yds a couple of times before they knew I was there.

I still have all of my tags and well I guess it isn't anything new. I think the last buck I shot was around 5-6 years ago. Like i said though I would rather them grow into something fantastic and spread their genes than to take them out just because they are legal. Now there was this one weird horned spike looking one that I had made up my mind if I saw him over the two weeks we were up at the farm he was a sure fire hamburger candidate, but alas he never showed.
