I am proud to say I have never watched her show. She epitomizes everything wrong with America.

Wow, how incredibly enlightened.

You are saying you never watch her, but she epitomizes whats wrong with America.

I am stunned by the magnitude of that statement.

95% of what Oprah does on her show is very good - possibly 98%.

Oh sorry, I forgot, you guys are all hairy chested nut scratching he-men.

Oprah features numerous segments on people who reach out to other people and show compassion and love and genuine human kindness.

She encourages people to be good to each other and so be self analytical and to persue their dreams in life.

Yeah - sounds like everything that is wrong with America.

I call BS - put up or shut up. :barf: :barf:

She certainly sets a powerful example for everyone that hard work and determination can earn you a place among the few.
Pendragon, you are correct, she is definitely a humanitarian and helps people daily. BUT, we sack scratchin' rednecks do not have to agree with her concerning her position and influence on the subject of RKBA. I'm sure I have a poor grasp of what it's like in the mind of Oprah, But try to tell that to the legions of soccer moms that worship her.

Well, I do not see Oprah as anti self defense.

I see her as a Chicago dwelling African American woman who sincerely is interested in helping people.

She is a far cry from a Rosie position of "take all guns now".

Where is she supposed to hear the truth in her environment?

I actually do know a bit about what she purveys because I've seen the effects of her "philosophy" on people I cared about, and I consider her enormously destructive. That she tries to disguise her New Age liberal feel-goodism selfishness behind a facade of self-help and "consciousness raising" does little to ameliorate the rotten core at the pit of her destructive philosophy of self-centerdness and ego.

GSB, I "think" I understood where you were directing this thread but could you please define "ameliorate" or should I consult my dictionary ?

Pendragon, I agree, she is miles away from the "Rosie" elitist attitude and does open the hearts and minds of those that wish to grow. In the windy city, I am sure she relies on some form of
protection.

if oprah really did "good" for people, she'd be putting her billions of dollars into making sure there are no homeless, and that all my bills are paid. so long as she keeps hoarding her money and exploiting other peoples problems to further her own agendas, shes the devil incarnate as far as i'm concerned.

Please

spacemanspiff, put down the crack pipe and step away from the keyboard.

So, the only way to try and be a good person is to try and help homless people? Oprah does not have "billions", her net worth is about 1 Bil right now. I would be suprised is more than 25% of that was liquid.

and that all my bills are paid. so long as she keeps hoarding her money and exploiting other peoples problems to further her own agendas, shes the devil incarnate as far as i'm concerned.

So the real reason you hate her is because

1. She does not give you money
2. She keeps her own money
3. She makes money by trying to help people, but is really just exploiting them and using them to further her "agenda".

Do you realize how that makes you sound?

She is under no obligation to share her wealth with anyone - least of all some grouchy spaceman in Alaska.

Do I agree with everything Oprah does or says? Not even close.

I do think she is sincere in wanting to find meaning in life and find ways to help people overcome difficult problems in her life.

If you are a student of Meyers-Briggs or David Kiersey, look up the INFJ temperment to understand how she is wired and what motivates her. Less than 2% of the population is wired that way according to the experts.

Oprah does a lot of good and she does things that I think show she does not have much of a foundation when it comes to spiritual beliefs. But I respect that she is interested in helping people and searching for "truth".

Anyway, I believe that I can learn something from just about anybody and it does not equate to a wholesale buy in of their belief system.

As my daddy always told me: "eat the meat and leave the bones".
