Hi All:

I searched the archives and found some good general info/comments on take-down models (Stevens 520, Model 12, etc.), but couldn't find a specific answer...so I thought I'd throw this out to the shotgun sages.

Are there any take-down models that are good for trap? I (a near-beginner, and a lefty) have been having lots of fun lately shooting trap with my Mossberg 500 (28" barrel) -- however I'd love to find something that packs smaller so I could travel to the range by motorcycle or bicycle -- yet still have a 26-30" barrel for trap.

I'm only shooting singles (for now) so a single shot, o/u, or pump would all work for me. 12 gauge, please.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions,

model 12's,97's,520,a single shot break open, or even a standard over/under can pack small.price varies on all of these,a good case will help if the gun is ever droped while riding also.97's are going up on part of the cowboy action shooters demand for them,12's have stayed the same mostly, the 16 gage is getting to be pricey a bit.parts for the 520 are starting to be made.

The Browning line of BT's are single shot trap guns. Many can be had used for a reasonable price. BT99's, BT100's.

As simmonsguns said many pumps and autos will break down somewhat by removing the barrel. Any O/U wil be as short as a single barrel trap gun when broken down.

Thanks for the responses.

Do 'take-down' models only refer to pumps and autos?

Also, anyone have photos (or links to photos) of assembled/taken-down shotguns so I can visualize how compact a traveling package we're talking about here?

Thanks again,

the only photo's i could sugest would be company (maker's)photo's.the best way to really see is to visit a gun shop, tell them what you are looking for and if there good, they will help you out.basicly with a 30 inch barrel, you also have a 15 inch stock, add 6 to 8 inches for the receiver and you have rough broken down length.this will vary with gun type but it will be close enough.weight might also be a factor, but the weight of the gun should be concidered when dealing with recoil and a long days shooting.
