I never like using the digital caliper when measuring the cartridge length across the bullet ogive of my reload.
While doing it, I never got the same reading. All my friends said its the same for everyone. You just get close to the same number and that the best you can do. Just could never get the cartage to fit squarely in the Hornady Bullet Comparator the same each time. Hornady says the same thing, that its not reliable or a repeatable method There has to be a better way.
So here is what I made to try to make it a little easier. Now I get the same measurement 98 percent of the time. It still matters on how you use the digital caliper to get a precise measurement. Your feel, your touch, but its so much better more consistent. Two different ways of using the Caliper. The one on the stand is my first. It is using the typical right handed caliper, its portable and works great. The other is attached to my Hornady LNL progressive machine, but had to buy a LEFT handed caliper and twist the metal to get the right viewing angle for the readout.
I like both, and I am now getting more consistent readings.
What do you think ? Anyone have a better idea ?
