The manufacturer recently submitted the S&H 2-Bore Blackpowder Express to http://AmmoGuide.com/

To compare these rounds ballistically, CLICK HERE.

Says smokeless loads are forthcoming. That's a 1.326-inch bore, folks. AmmoGuide calculates the case capacity at 994 grains water. With a lid, you could use it for a canteen! :)

For those that might respond that >.50 cal and rifled means NFA restrictions (something a friend recently claimed), I offer the following...
.50 Alaskan - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=269
.50 Peabody Musket - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=157
.50/460 Bushman - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=159
.500 A-Square - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=460
.500 American Hunting Rifle - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=469
.500 Jeffery - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=461
.500 Linebaugh - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=423
.510 DTC EUROP - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=437
.50 McMillan Bros. (Fat Mac) - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=445
.50-140 Sharps - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=391
.50-70 Government - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=145
.56-52 Spencer Necked - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=153
.577 Nitro Express - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=231
.577 Tyrannosaur - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=230
.600 H&H Nitro Express - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=27
.700 H&H Nitro Express - http://ammoguide.com/?catid=17

Now, I don't give legal advice, but aren't these all legal without a federal license, even in Kalifornistan? All are .510" or greater and rifled.

And the CA antis really touted a victory in banning the .50 BMG. How deceptive can one get?

Mike

My understanding (IANAL, and I don't play on on TV) is that there are a FEW exeptions to the >.50 rule, specifically the .600 and .700 Nitro Express (and shotgun sluds, too). Anything else may be treading on Thin Ice.

Any caliber that a .500" diameter rod will fit into the barrel is technically illegal by Federal law - but you can get a "sporting use" blanket exemption from the BATFE for such a cartridge; and yes the 50 BMG was granted this exemption. For more info go to the accurate reloading Big Bore forum, where this has been discussed often. In fact, one member recently received this exemption for his "550 Flanged Magnum" wildcat that he designed.

("Flanged is an old British terminology for a rimmed case for use in double barrel rifles where there is also a rimless version for bolt action rifles)

:what:

That rattled my fillings loose just looking at it. I honestly believe you would have to pay me to touch that thing off. And a lot!

Detached retina's, anyone?

Now what could we, in heavens name, do with that...Oh yeah...I know...Scare the liberals and lose somemore gun rights...That'll work...

Kinda borders on ridiculous. Have they resurected "T" rex?

I've been lookin' at this every day trying to find some reason for messin' with...Oh never mind. I'm just gettin' old. Why I haven't figured out why we need a 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge magnum when a 3 inch magnum did just everything we needed done. Just me....

Misinformation......

Per BATFE.....

The sporting use exemption is applicable to devices (which includes firearms) that would normally fall under the jurisdiction of NFA. Any firearm which is determined to be a sporting device requires no exemption regardless of bore size because it is a sporting device. (Sounds like Sarthe?)

Example: a bowling ball mortar is over .50 caliber but is clearly a sporting device (name that sport) and therfore requires no exemption. Conversely, a 120mm REAL mortar is clearly NOT a sporting device and no exemption would be forthcoming.

Same applies to Rifles. Our product was submitted to NFA for approval and was forwarded by them to the sporting arms division as no exemption was needed. Exception: a belt fed automatic 2-bore, bowling ball mortar or whatever. That type of device would be a tough sell as a sporting device.

FYI - The guys who look at this stuff at BATFE are very saavy professionals and fortunately very accomodating and friendly. (They know what they're lookin at and what you're up to.)
