Taking an anti out in 2 weeks!!!

I'm so excited for this I can barely contain myself. A good friend of mine is a die-hard party lines Democrat. I agree with him on most things, but not guns. He needed a place to stay for a weekend visit, and I told him he could crash here if he let me take him shooting. I already have him memorizing the 4 rules. I think I'll start him with the .22, then the sks, then maybe the 30-06... That should provide a good demonstration on how much more 'high powered' a hunting rifle is than an 'assault weapon' (even though my sks is not legally an assault weapon... you get the jist).

After the fun, make sure to show him the propaganda and begin the cleansing of his cranium grey matter. Discuss facts vs. emotions/feelings, fear of the unknown, politicians use of lies to ban things (hunting vs. tyranny control), racism and gun control, criminal behavior and mindset and finally, why the founding fathers went to the trouble of including the second into the rules our government is supposed to play by (don't forget the other 9 amendments originally required to ratify the Constitution).

Make sure everyone has fun.

If your range permits them, try getting some reactive or steel targets. They're usually a hit (no pun intended) with new shooters, who like instant feedback that they've hit the target (worry about groups later). For example, plastic two-liter soda bottles filled with water "explode" nicely on impact, and they're cheap. :D

I will agree with Bubbles. I have taken a few girls and guys who have never shot before out shooting at milk jugs of water and clay targets. They really like seeing the targets explode, and everyone loves shooting the .22.

If you do have to stick to paper targets, get some of those "C n' C" sticker targets that make the yellow "splash" when you hit them.

Other then that, make sure he has fun and don't go too heavy on the arguments. Let him draw his own conclusions, with just a few gentle nudges where appropriate.

1. Balloons are the cheapest and most reactive targets there are, and ranges that prohibit steel allow them.

2. I hope no one would really take an anti (who is anti because he's a Democrat) out shooting pictures of prominent Democrats. :uhoh:

3. As someone implied, the time to let him shoot bigger guns is when he asks. Just take them along and shoot whatever you want. When he's ready, he'll ask to shoot it too.
