A word to the WISE for CONGRESS:
"You cannot invade America. There is a rifle behind every blade of grass." Admiral Yamamoto

A Veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to and including my life.”

Thanks again for taking the time and effort to read this data. I hope you have learned a little of the history of the M1 Garand.

Im guessing that since they couldn't solve this problem that is why we GREASE Garands rather than oil them. Thanks for the info as always Eclancy

The fix was supposed to be a roller lug, which appeared on the Garand derived M-14. The short term fix was the little grease container. The war ended before planned production changes for the M1 were implemented.

Good thing Lubriplate had 130-A sitting right there on the shelf. I now use Militec-1 grease which makes for even smoother operation, or so it seems.

Melvin Johnson wrote a very good book, "Field Firing" during the war. Lots of practical information on how to employ the combat rifle which is still valid today. He has one whole chapter, if I recall, titled "Put Oil On it!" to keep them running.

Which lesson is now being rediscovered with the M4 carbines.

Thanks for putting the info up.
