My single shot Thor has been giving me light primer strikes. Even with Federal primers, about 10% don't fire. I took it to my gunsmith who said that the firing pin spring needed replacement.

It has an inertia firing pin. Wouldn't a new spring tend to make strikes even lighter, IOW providing more resistance? I could see a new hammer spring but that's not what I was told was the issue.

I haven't picked it up from the shop yet but can someone shed any light on this? I am puzzled.

Maybe he meant replace the existing spring with a weaker one.
Did he actually inspect it or just make a guesstimate?
And did you clean out the firing pin hole in the slide along with the pin and spring?
Another thing worth looking into is the fit of the brass in the chamber.
Maybe they go in a little too far.
Also check the firing pin length to see if it's worn down.
Neat gun - it must give off quite a roar.

Thx! I will talk to the gunsmith when I pick it up Saturday. I did clean it out very well. It doesn't bark too loudly, it's just the 44mag. It IS fun with the scope and bipod...

Gunsmith said he installed a weaker FP spring, one with fewer coils. Makes sense now. Will test at range Saturday. Strikes are slightly off center but I'm not gonna throw $ at that. It's not for hunting or SD. Any round that won't fire will get set aside for my Rugers or Smiths.

Silver solder a bit more material on the end of your pin to make it a tad longer.

I always wanted to get a Thor. I remember when they used to be advertised in gun magazines when I was a kid.

Thx for the tip. Tested at range today. Very few light strikes, much better. I'll have to try lengthening the FP. That seems to be a good idea.
