Does anybody have experience with the polish tantal ak promag. I want something that is tight and functional. I can get one for under $20, but someone on gunbroker has steel tantal mags 2 for $60 Any information is greatly appreciated.

Any AK74 magazine will fit.

You can do a lot better than Pro-Mag, in a EG bakelite, or Bulgarian polymer milsurp magazine.

That's the trick these days, I'm afraid -- there's lots of better options, but finding them is the problem. You could check with Tantal at Avtomats in Action (google search) -- he sells a lot of AK related stuff, and might still have some in stock. He's where I got all my Russian bakelites.

I've heard that ProMag AK mags work fine if you replace the springs, simply because it's an AK and it will feed damn near anything. However, I still don't trust a company that can't even make usable single stack pistol mags.

I don't know if they have changed thier specs or not but I bought a couple PRO MAG 5.45X39 mags for my Tantal and they didn't fit, the latch tab is too thick and you have to file them down, which I don't like to do on plastic mags(weakens an already weak part). You have to be a little picky about mags for the Tantal because they are not the same as other AK-74 mags, but I have had good luck with the E. German bakelites and they have a steel tab if you have to file them to fit.

This is this! It's not something else, it's this!

Don't pull it if you don't plan to use it, and don't use it if you don't plan to kill!

ALWAYS REMEMBER OUR MEN AND WOMEN OVER THERE.

Well here is my two cents. Other mags are currently going for 30+ dollars. I just got a few more promags in, dremeled the locking tab, it doesn't take much and the fit is nice and tight. I have only dry fed them so far, will be testing them later today. Now I have an interarms tantal. I have read many horror stories about promags not even fiting the mag well, so far all have been century arms tantals. There seems to be a difference in the two makes. Otherwise I have about 5 other different types of ak74 mags and all fit and feed fine, so far the promags work as well. I also have promag single stacks for my desert eagle and have had no issues. But others seem to have horrible experiences with promag, so far everything I have gotten from promag works well. I will respond later with how they work in live fire.

Well, they worked flawlessly! No misfeeds of any type. I would recommend these even with the fix needed for the locking tab. You can seat a mag and still do pushups on weapon with mag inserted and holding everything up with no issues. Polymers are not the same as plastic and much stronger than people think.
