So, apparently cap guns aren't real PC anymore. I cannot seem to find anyone that sells 'em or roll caps now days. Sorta makes the tap o cap worthless. I was at the Dollar General, one of those dollar store chains, we have two of 'em, looking for roll caps. They didn't have any, but they had these "ring caps". I've never messed with 'em, was too old to play with cap guns when they came out in the 70s or 80s, can't remember which. They are little blanks, in effect. I pulled the plastic body apart and I'll be danged if they didn't look just like a cap, just cut 'em off the little ring. I tried one on one of my Hawkens and it's slipped right over the nipple and when I fired it, DANG, it went "pow" with the authority of about a non-magnum percussion cap! Two advantages, I can get 'em in this little town, don't have to drive 30 miles to the nearest gun shop and, 2, they're 192 shots for a buck 75. I doubt they'll have enough pop for the hawkens firing pyrodex or triple 7 which needs the magnum primers to have any sort of reliability. BUT, I sometimes pull the nipple off and dump a little pyrodex in the hole, screw the nipple back, and that insures ignition. I bet they'd fire that way. AND, the tap o caps are pretty reliable on my revolvers. These have more pop than 3 roll cap centers in a tap o cap for sure. And, you don't need the tap o cap body, just cut off the caps from the ring!
Some of you may already know this, but I feel like I found gold. ROFL!
