I notice that the standard target for bench rest competitions out to 300m is the standard round ring style target with a square box above the bulls-eye. I know most shots are grouping in the center ring and wanted to know what the purpose of the square box above the bulls-eye was?

Thanks for any feedback!
Joe

The box is to give a crisp aiming point. You can quarter the box with crosshairs, center a dot in the open square, or line up on a corner, whatever gives your eye and your reticle the most precise aim. If you are shooting score benchrest, adjust the scope to aim somewhere on the box and hit in the center of the rings. If you are shooting group benchrest, anywhere inside the border is ok. Do not zero dead on and chew up your aiming point with bullet holes.
