I need to purchase some good adjustable target sights for my K-frame, for ISSF style shooting (so not really interested in lowmount, tactical, surburban commando, combat sights).

So my question is, who makes some good sights?

I've seen sights that can even hold 3 presets, but that's probably going to be out of my price range......

I've heard good things about Millett, and liked what I've seen on the guns of other people.

What kind of K frame?
Does it have factory adjustable sights or fixed?
Barrel length?

I assume you are shooting international centerfire 25 metre precision and duel. Or do they still do that?

The Aristocrat sight rib, the one with presets for different ranges, seems only to be made for bull barrels. Brownells carries them at

The Bomar ribs look pretty much like the Aristocrat ASR-6 shown there, and for a similar price in $US. And Bomar makes ribs with their adjustable sights that will fit most S&W factory barrels, attached by two or three screws in new holes drilled and tapped, but no milling machine work required. Unfortunately, if they have their own website, I cannot find it.

I presume you are looking for sight to go on the S&W model 15-3 you mentioned in another post. If so, the manual I recommended goes into optional sights, including the Millett. In my opinion, the best would be a Bo-Mar rib, but you might have to get them to make one for a 4 inch barrel. Usually they come for the 6 inch length.

Millett's replacement sights leave Smith & Wesson's in the dust. One and two at a time, I'm replacing all my Smith & Wesson and Colt rear sights with Millett.

I didn't say they're cheap. I said they're very, very good.

Thanks for all the info guys. Old Fluff brought up on something I should have mentioned before, this revolver is without it's factory 4'' barrel, it now has a nice 6'' barrel (apologies in advance to the purists out there).

Unfortunatly the gun is bare at the moment, as the previous owner has topped it with an ugly red dot scope, so I am getting rid of that, and dressing it with some sights.

The ribs that Jim mentioned run a little bit out of my price range. How much do the Millett sights usually run for?

But I tell you what, this K-frame is the nicest gun I have ever laid eyes (and hands) on. I never understood the K-frame fanatisisum untill I brought one. They conjer up an emotion that is just un-describeable....I think I'm in love....lol.

Thanks again guys, looks like millet if I can afford them....and weigand if I can't.

Is the new 6-inch barrel one that S&W made, or someone else? If it isn't a factory barrel give us a better description. :)

post a picture or two

I fully intend to show this beauty off...unfotunatly I do not have the gun in my possetion right now. It will be about a months wait to get though all the legal rubbish, and paper pushing to have it added onto my licence.

For now all I can tell you is that it is a custom barrel....but it's still drilled to accept a front rib. It's not dovetailed or anything.

The Millett's are pretty pricey, but it's looks at if they are the only option that will fit my needs. I looked at the Weigand sights, but they are only adjustable for windage, and lean more towards combat styles. The gun-smith I spoke to seemed confident that he could get the millets on there without having to make new holes.

Well thanks for all the advice, and I will get some pics up when I get it home. I feel like I am counting down the days to Christmas...

...well, the Millett's ARE nice...I've got 'em on three or four of MY Smith's, but...I don't think they are necessary for "Bullseye"-type shooting...I shot some "ISU" Centerfire in the mid-90's with a six-inch 586, six-inch 19 and four-inch 686...all with the issue S&W rear sight. FWIW, I NEVER felt handicapped by the sights...BTW, on a six-inch gun, using the S&W rear sight, if you want to hold "Six O'clock" on BOTH the "Precision" target and the "Duel" target, you need to come UP one and three quarters turns on the S&W rear sight when going from the smaller "Precision" target to the larger "Duel" bull....HTH....mikey357

Hey Guys,

Just an update....

I wound up getting the Millets installed on the gun, and you were all right, they are nice. Very neat and tidy sights.

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers.
