i posted this on another forum, but thought i would share here as well.
a few months back, i bought one of the newer taurus 745 pro's with the SA trigger. it functioned perfect, but my hand was simply too big for its grip. during fire, my thumb would hit the touchy mag release and drop the mag. i tried adjusting my grip, but just couldnt feel comfortable with the possiblity of the mag dropping during fire. so, i traded it off after only a couple boxes of ammo had been through it.
last weekend at sportsmans, i found a 145 pro for $299. the grip is just a tad bigger than the 745, and the mag release seemed to require more pressure to drop. i decided to give it a try.
today, i went out to the desert and took a box of hornady tap 230 gr +p, 100 rds of blazer brass, and 100 rounds of mixed rn and xtp reloads. i started out slow fire from 30 feet. i found out quickly that i had to readjust to the heinie straight 8 sights as i was shooting low. after i relearned the sight picture, i was pleasently suprised at the accuracy of the 145. the gun fed and ejected flawlessly through all 220 rounds. not bad for a first trip out.
im amazed that taurus managed to squeeze 10+1 rounds into that tiny gun. it fits my hand perfectly. i wouldnt want it to be any smaller or larger. the trigger is fine, crisp and predictable. the gun appears to be well made, and handles recoil nicely. at 22oz, i thought it would have significant recoil. i found that it shoots much softer than my colt lightweight commander.
i plan on getting to 1000 rounds, then i may use it as a "beater" carry.
2 questions...is anyone aware of aftermarket night sights to replace the heinie's? id really like to go to standard 3-dot night sights. last, can anyone recommend a good slim kydex iwb holster? thanks.
