I shot my first Taurus PT1911 and I have to admit it is a very nice gun.
My brother in-law just bought it last week and we went to the range
today. I was shooting my Kimber Series I and he was shooting his
new Taurus, after a while we traded and I shot it as well as my
Kimber. It functioned flawlessly out of the box with 8 round mags.
The only two things I noticed were the trigger is not as good as
my Kimber, mine is really broke in and the notch in the rear sight
is much wider than the blade but that did not hurt its performance.
Over all I was extreamly impressed with gun.

I got a PT1911 about 6 weeks ago and all I can say is WOW! I was concerned about quality due to the price but after shooting it and stripping it down I am impressed. I own 4 Kimbers, 1 S/A 1991, have owned Colts and a couple custom 1911's. The Taurus has most of the bells and whistles at half the price, 100% reliable with 5 factory loads and numerous reloads I have fired, accurate as my Kimber target model also which is my most accurate factory 1911.
 
Mine has been totally reliable and a tack driver too. Love the PT1911. Phooey to all the nay sayers.
 
So what exactly do the so called "nay-sayers" say about the Taurus PT1911? Ok...so if I were to choose between the Taurus 1911 and the Dan Wesson full size five inch barrel 1911...which one to choose? Now many might just say, "Go for the Dan Wesson". Ok...so why? What exactly difference is there that would make me want to spend, um, say, about $300 more for the Dan Wesson. What exactly would I get for that additional expense that the Tauri doesn't already have...if not more. Usually, when they do not have anything specific to point to...I hear, "Well Taurus has the poorer After Sales Service...or the Tarui magazines do not feed as well, etc. So...what is wrong with the Taurus 1911? Price is sure right. Not sure I'm warm and fuzzy about the hammer lock...but hey, I can live with that...or make that minor change. MIM parts? I think just about everybody making 1911s' now have some/many of those? Ok...please, someone with pertinent info...educate me.
 
sorry for a confused question, but when ya'll refer to MIM parts you DO mean metal injection molding instead of made in mexico right?

Most of the compliants about the PT1911 I hear are in fact the Taurus customer service which most say sucks. The primary failure compliat I hear is the MIM safety lever breaking.

I love my PT1911 and the major argument I have regarding the Taurus customer service as it applies to the PT1911 is that fact the its a true 1911making upgrade parst and gunsmiths who work on them abundant and relatively cheap.

My intent was that if I need to replace a minor part due to failure or just because I want to upgrade it, i can do that and not worry about Taurus. the fact is, if a MIM part broke on me I'd probably spend just as much to replace it here at home with a better part as I would to ship the gun to Taurus and if not the same, close enough to warrant just putting a better part on.

The only fear I would have is a major failure that requires it be sent to taurus which I have heard can be a 3-6 month ordeal for some people who had bad experiences.

My PT1911 is super accurate and totally reliable so far.
 
Read you guys comments. I am very happy with my PT1911 and it also shoots well with the many GI mags that I've collected. The Glock 21 now collects dust in the safe.

I put the first 1/2 box of ammo thru it into the 9 and 10 rings indoors at 50ft. I had a big smile, and that was Wolf 230 hardball.

My son has a Kimber Compact Carry 3" and shoots it well. I tried it, but it would take me some practice to get good. Haven't shown my PT1911 to him as he's on east coast and I'm western Oregon.

I did get my spring bear tag tonight, so will load some 338 Win Mag ammo for my Kimber rifle and some 45 ACP for the Taurus.

I've put about 250 rounds through my new PT1911SS. It's reliable, accurate, and well built. I have nothing but praise for this gun.

MIM is the abbrevation of '' Micro Injection Molding ''.

If done properly, there is nothing wrong with the method other than lowering the manufacturing time and costs. MIM and casting are amoung the high end technological advances in metallurgical work. But the crucial point is, they are not the everyones' job.

I took my new PT 1911 out yesterday..................100% GREAT

Now has anyone been able to take one apart withut using the wrench?????
 
The problem I've found with Taurus is that my FFL guy can't find a steady supplier. I've been trying to get a 941 and he's been trying to get a 1911 for this whole school year with no luck (Yes, I'm a teacher; my Principal has an FFL.) Our English teacher has a millenium that she really likes, I had a 941 that I foolishly sold. I want one again now that I have more of a steady income.
