I just saw an ad in a Gun Rag for Taurus 1911s. Has anybody heard about these or shot one? What is their quality and workmanship?
They exaggerate the cost of their features - they are not going to be the quality of a Wilson or equivalent 1911, which is the kind of price for feature they are quoting. So I'm curious about their price.

Given that the Taurus revolvers I've handled had poor triggers, I'd like to know the quality of their trigger pulls.

Die hard 1911 collectors - something you will get?

Do a search. I'm looking pretty hard at getting one myself and have been doing a lot of research. So far they have been getting excellent reviews from gun rags and owners alike. But these ain't no Wilson's or Les Baer's by any means.

Never seen one, but what they "offer" is a forged slide/frame with checkering at @ $500. Offhand, I can't think of any others with those features until you get into $900-$1100 range...but I could be wrong. ;)

Everything else appears to be the same as the competition. Meaning fixed sights, lot's of MIM parts, some type of FP safety, etc, etc that you can buy in the @ $700 range...without checkering.

So, if it works "out of the box" I think it will sell well at those prices. If they keep on working and are as "accurate" as the reviews I'm reading about, I think they will sell very well.

They are getting good internet reports from (apparent) paying customers.
One guy had a broken ejector and not all their magazines are great, but that is about the limit of mechanical faults.

The Heinie rear sight is the sight Mr H meant for the Taurus 24/7 which means the dovetail is not GI nor is it either Heinie or Novak proprietary 1911 pattern. If you don't like the factory sight and the ugly step behind the blade, you are out of luck until Heinie or somebody comes out with a replacement or unless you are willing to put a hundred bucks into remachining the cuts on a $500 gun.

The firing pin obstructor is a close copy of Colt Series 80. The now standard Taurus key lock is in the top of the hammer; I don't know how it works but you can just ignore it.

Trigger pulls run from 3.5 lbs on Glocktalk to the 6.3 lbs of the NRA gun.
So you might get lucky.

Taurus 1911

I had the chance to handle one at my LGS a couple of weeks ago. My impressions about the pistol are as follows: it was a very well fitted and finished, nice looking pistol; the trigger pull was less than desireable (particularly since their ads claim it has a $100 trigger "job")- I would estimate that the pull was 5 1/2 to 6 lbs, and it had a bad "hitch" in its take-up. Overall fot the money, it's probably a good buy, but I'd personally get an SA GI. Either of them IMO would need a trigger job.

Interesting comment on trigger job vs. price because the ads also claim the magazine is worth $30 - which is what Wilson or Chip McCormick charges for their better ones last time I bought a bunch. Of course I also expect exaggeration, but give me a decent magazine at least.
