Hello everyone, Im new to the forums and would just like to say this forum is awesome after going about it for two days. I was trying to research the handgun in question. Anyways, This is what I would like to know...

This will be my first hand gun. I seen it a local gun store. A Taurus 24/7 Pro DS .45 ACP. I liked the way it felt and fit in my hand. Perfect almost.

It had a good price on it and I like lifetime warranty as well....

How ever, I been to other sites and I have had many different comments about this gun. It's been said this gun has FTF due to magazine and most said probably due to the spring being new. It needs to be broken in. About 200+ rounds. This happens to hollow points only. If used with FMJ, No problem...

After being 200 rounds or so, A guy on youtube said that it now takes what ever he feeds it.

Other's say it worked perfect out of the box....

There also was some with issues with the magazine easily falling out while shooting or holding. How ever some say its because they hit the eject by mistake. While others say it happens to them and there sure there not touching it.

Im also looking to get my CCW. I know that compact and medium frame would be much better and easier to conceal...If I stay with this, What would be the best way to conceal? IWB im guessing....

One more thing, I have the option to change over to another gun in case I change my mind before i buy it completely. So if not this one, Then what would be a good first gun with reliability. I am looking to carry like I mentioned and right now my budget would be about 450-500..

Im open to all suggestions

Thanks.

I speak as a large fan of Taurus, I find all of mine incredibly dependable and stake my life as well as the lives of my family every single day, that being said you will fin many on this site to be anti-Taurus, simply because of older QC issues, don't sweat it

I have a pt145 mil pro whodunit very similar, in fact o use 24/7 mags in mine, and haven't had any issues other than the mag, the main issue there is that they tend to overpreserve them from the factory, take it apart and clean it out well an you shouldbe fine, if that doesn't do it for you I can send you a link to some wolff replacement springs that are about 2$ a piece that will fix it for sure, I've done it to mine and love it

That all being said if you like it, it fits good in your hand, nd it's in your budget, I say go for it

The firt handgun I ever bought was a Taurus 24/7 Pro .40, this was 3-4 years ago. I liked the gun, it fit my hand well, and was very reliable. The only real issue I had with it was the terrible trigger, it had a whole lot of creep ( i think that is the proper term; there was a lot of travel before anything would happen), but I haven't shot a lot of striker fired handguns so that may be common. It was also fairly accurate.

That was the gun I used during my CCW class and the first gun I ever carried.

However, I sold it to fund a Ruger Security Six and was much happier.

In your price range I would look for Glocks, XD's or M&P's , all should carry well. Also, since you are looking at a .45 it would be hard to beat a 1911. I love my Rock Island Tactical and you can get one of them for less than $500.

I have the 24/7 Pro LS in .45acp. If you want it to feed hollow points well, try the Hornady Critical Defense round. I think they are great, and they seem to feed well in anything.

thanks for the info guys and let me have that link just in case.

Giterbusted, Can I have that link? Just in case. This will be my defense weapon so just in case better to be safe

I 've got a 24/7 40 cal, I like the gun. I got no complaints, its reliable... shot many reloads through it as well. I have never had a misfire nor a jam with this gun. Truth is Taurus is a reasonable priced good gun. I own Smiths, Rugers & Colts just sayin...

Thats something to be noted. Im not crazy about reloads as many people say they have had problems with them. That insight is helpful. Thanks.

I have a taurus 24/7 pro 9mm, and its a wonderful gun. ive put more than a thousand rounds through it without a SINGLE malfunction. thats speer gold dots, hornady xtp, and xtp critical defense along with every fmj imaginable.

However, i got mine with 4 mags for 300 bucks. You should be able to find your for slightly more than that. if your budget is around the 5 bills area, glock and xd would be my choice.

Wow, That was a deal. I was thinking of switching over to a Glock 25 or Glock 19. For concealment purposes....I know the XD are also good. Im getting the 24/7 Pro .45 for about $375 with taxes and with 2 mags, case and lock, new of course.

Okay, Thanks. I went to Wolff Springs but I dont see the ones for the 24/7. :p

Thanks. At least now I know I don't have to worry about feeding it JHP.

The only real issue I had with it was the terrible trigger, it had a whole lot of creep ( i think that is the proper term; there was a lot of travel before anything would happen).
++1
I also had the exact gun you are looking at and the trigger is something to get used to. Other than that I loved it and it ate everything I fed it. The DA/SA trigger is interesting. Can decock (if you feel the need) and still just pull the trigger to fire it like a revolver.

I had one, it was accurate and reliable. I got rid of it because the gun hurt my wrist to shoot, the gun felt like it wanted to flip out of my hand when I shot it. I've shot and owned a number of 45 acp polymer guns and never had one with as harsh recoil as the Taurus. If you can handle the gun it should be fine.

I recently bought one at the Academy Sporting goods store here in the Houston area. 349.00. Shoots like a dream. Am going to use it for a CCW. Finding holsters is a bit of a trick, but as far as the pistol goes, I am very happy with it. Accurate and fun to shoot.
