I have looked everywhere to find no answer to my question. I bought the revolver with a 4" barrel, and was wondering if a S&W barrel of a longer length will go on this gun. The barrel's I have seen look the exact same, the only thing I am not to sure about is the thread pattern.

I just have the regular blued 66 - not a bad gun for price - and wife shoots it rather well! Her house gun!!

I think tho that it is IMO unlikely a S&W barrel would go on. Taurus copies very well - the 66 of mine is very ''Smithlike'' - but I would doubt a substitution would work - just because differences could/would be enough to matter. Hard to imagine thread pitch - length re forcing cone - set up of cyl gap - etc, etc being suitable.

Question tho - you want to go for longer tube - but is this really worth it - even if a sub' could be made? Better surely to look for something like a 6" GP-100 or S&W 686?? Pre-owned of course.

A new barrel is a whole hell of alot cheaper then buying a whole new gun tho, thats the point. =)

Agreed - superficially. I did edit above post to mention ''pre-owned'' as alternatives.

You may perhaps get a barrel per se - at a fair and acceptable price but - all that is involved re fitting - assuming you found a good smith to do it if even possible - would that really save you a boatload of money?

I rather doubt it! :)

More edits - anyways - what's so bad about 4"?? Unless for some reason you wanna stretch to real long like 8" - seems little advantage IMO. Just my 2c!

Just a loose question, I noticed barrels online i can buy for 50-60 bucks...

I am looking for more accuracy at longer range 8" is about what I was looking for :)

That sounds a very good deal on barrels. Again tho I wonder - if smithing costs - maybe - $100 or so - is it still worth it? I hope someone may know if interchangeability is viable. Ask some smiths even.

I reckon the 4" is good for 25 yds and more - 50 yards plus in fact.

Unless you want to do 100 yard and over - viz hunting with .357 loads - I am still not seeing your large and cost-effective advantage.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE long tubes as many will attest but - here tho - finding it hard to see justification in all that might be involved - even if a swap was practicable!

Call Taurus. I am sure that they would set you up with something if you ask and pay. But don't expect a revolver with changable barrels.

P95Carry, is the 66 smith-like in handling/size/shape only, or is the trigger alike too?

I dont expect you to say its short smooth and light, but I'm curious if the trigger mechanism is similar to the ones found in their Tracker line.

In fact - the entire gun feels ''Smith''.

I will admit to observations others have made at times - certain machining finish - ratchet on cyl is best example - leaves a bit to be desired aesthetically but as far as function - well so far this gun was just excellent out of the box.

Some folks who have tried it would I think agree the trigger is butter - has what you might call a typical Smith feel S/A - quite light and smooth - and D/A is very smooth too. This may have been an exceptional example but - it has surprised some who tried it. Certainly - it was good value - and it also happens to be the gun my wife shoots best.... she loves it!

It does not have a history of 1,000's of rounds so no idea re longevity etc - but the few hundred so far have been a delight to shoot.

I'm too old to get used to a 7 shot revo tho! :p
