they are making snub nose 44 SPECIALs again. as at budsgunshop.

If you look in the second photo, i dont see the charecteristic allowance for moon clips, and im still sure that 40 Smith Wesson needs moon clips for use in a revolver as its one of those newfangled rimless rounds.

YES! That would be a perfect tagalong to my USP and Glock!

And I want a small revolver, I can't carry my Highway Patrolman every time I want to!

Folks, the pistol pictured was mistakenly put in a Taurus box of another caliber at the factory and sent to a dealer.
I don't know if the pistol is a prototype or the 40's are under production and are waiting on a release date?
Whatever the case, wisely or not, the dealer contacted Taurus and was told by Taurus to send the pistol back. The dealer has refused to do so to date and the matter is still up in the air.

there are .40 cal revolvers

Hi, In case ya'll don't know S&W makes a performance center model that shoots a .40 cal I think it is 646. They used to make a model 610 that shoots 10mm and 40 cal. I have one and it is a sweet shooter, they made 4,5& 6 inch model the one I have is a 4 inch and I couldn't be happier, both models use moon clips. Thanks Mac

This is the listing on found on Gunsamerica.com for this revolver one of a kind...interesting write up. Seems it was a prototype that got out of the factory by mistake.

We always pounce on Tauruses, especially discontinued and pre-1990 Tauruses not only because they’re fine firearms; we and a good many others consider them eminently desirable and even collectable. This revolver came from a recent Miami factory sale of factory reconditioned Taurus firearms that are so marked on their boxes. It is definitely covered by Taurus’s Life Time Repair Policy. The only detractions that we detect to this revolver are light cylinder rotation marking, light amounts of residue in its bore and chambers from recent test firing at the Miami Taurus Plant, and an X Suffix beside its 8-digit serial number. The box on this one is mis-marked for a .41 Magnum, yet the serial number on the box is correct. This .40 S&W Caliber Medium Frame Taurus is a 5-shot capacity snub. It comes with an instruction manual, uncompleted warranty registration card, and two keys for its built-in hammer lock. This is a prototype revolver that Taurus never marketed. Note the beautiful Hard Chrome Finish – we assume that the final C in the product code designates Hard Chrome – especially on the hammer and trigger, most pleasing to many of us S&W traditionalists. This is, we are quite sure, a rare Taurus. Unlike its rather outlandishly-furnished predecessors by Charter and Smith & Wesson who either had to use rimmed ammo as the Charter Pit Bull did; or a strange ejector assembly, as with the 547 Smith & Wesson, this Taurus’s cylinder chambers are simply recessed and use a moon clip, so that a person can have several instant speedloaders on hand. While we don’t have any of the moon clips at press time, we are making efforts to determine whether a Smith & Wesson 610 loader will work. This revolver weighs in at 29.5 ounces empty. Even though its barrel isn’t ported, with the ribbed factory rubber grips and weight, a person could have pleasant, economic shooting and plenty of confidence with this fine Taurus. After one of our friends called Taurus International about moon clips, we got a rather interesting call from Salesman Richard C., who may bear responsibility for allowing this revolver to leave the Miami Plant. Richard threatened to call the BATF and, strangely, the Credit Bureau if we did not return this revolver. Own this unique collectable Taurus 4138, the only one on the market, for only $ 889.95

Hope they make it a production item.

i wonder how much taurus would pay to get something like that back? because last I checked if you receive a package addressed to your address you legally do not have to give it back even if it was sent to you by mistake, you didn't pay for it, or they just flat out the wrong item, I'm not sure if its the same case with this but given it was sent to a licensed dealer I'm sure it still applies.

Well, the cat's out of the bag, and I'm betting Richard C. from Taurus will be losing his job for this snafu. The fact that he THREATENED the gun shop owner shows his fear if his superiors find out. But this gun is useless without moon clips, and I'm betting Taurus won't sell any to whoever buys it. Personally, I'd rather have a Smith 610 so I could shoot both 10mm and 40S&W. Taurus should make a revolver like that, since all their revolvers are cheap Smith knockoffs anyways.

Well, I would wonder about that threatening part; wouldn't it be more plausible (and prudent), simply for Taurus to buy the gun back, even at a somewhat inflated price. Besides the clips, maybe it's still not perfected, or even close to being ready for production. And if it does go into production, do you really want to pay nearly $900 for a gun that would probably retail for less than half that.

you may be missing the possible points here.
box says correct serial number but states it as a 41 magnum
it was purchased by a dealer during a used gun sale from the miami plant.

To me it sounds like the following has happened.

- taurus dropps the snub nosed 41 magnum revolver line, and retools it for a .40sw chamber.
-gun is sent to someone for an advance review write up or to someone at the main Taurus HQ for some target practice or critique.
-gun is sent back to maimi. Some underpaid illegal immigrant working in the plant in miami sees "dirty used gun" and throws it in the wrong bin.
-gun goes through plant in wrong wheel barrow and is sold to dealer
-big honcho in miami Taurus plant is now scared to death at having this "non existent" gun in the hands of the public and competition.

I forgot about that, according to what I have been told by my father (whose info may be out of date so please correct me if its wrong) the caliber of the gun doesn't matter as long as the serial numbers on the box gun and paper work received are accurate.

though taurus may be very much inclined to pay to get the gun back because if it is a prototype of some sort they may not want it to reach the hands of the competition or there can be a flaw with the design or its just not ready for the public yet, in any case the dealer who received it does not have to return it.

the worst taurus could do to the dealer is deny them the right to carry their products.

I'm sorry but this story the dealer has been spouting sounds a bit like nonsense to me. What I see this a dealer trying to move an admittedly unique model made by a, at best, mediocre firearms maker for a price that most people wouldn't pay. Not at all uncommon for a dealer to stretch the truth to make a sale.:what:

I'm a fan of Taurus revolvers; I have always had good luck with them.......but I gotta say....I see this just about the same way SouthpawShootr does. I think it's more about Robertson hyping a sale; they sometimes "fluff and buff" the write-ups that accompany their used gun listings. Nothing wrong with that.....but caveat emptor !

I've always though a .40S&W revolver would be neat. I'd like the S&W 646 as well as the Ruger Vaquero in .40S&W.

Prices!

I would love a 40 revolver also, but how about one the working man can afford. I am tired of this high price crap on the market!(s&w):banghead: Lets get a model more people can afford and the sales of these types of revolvers will go up. No one makes them because no one buys them......why not PRICE!

Rant off!
