I've spotted a fairly nice condition blued Taurus 445 .44special w/2" barrel for sale locally and am wondering what you guys can tell me about it.

Right now I currently reload 240gr SWC bullets at 800fps for my Colt New Frontier, would these loads work in the 445?

How do these guns hold up?

How are they to conceal?

They are asking $300 for it, but I know I could get it for $250 or $275.

Let me know what you think.

Steve

I owned and carried one for a coupla years, finally used it in a trade for a 696.
The only prob I had was when I used the wrong powder in reloads, it got so dirty that it would not fire, residue build-up between the forcing cone and cylinder face was the culprit. I switched to a different powder and the problem was solved. Never had any issues with either frangible or gold dot defensive rounds.
While it was never the slickest action, it was built well and reliable enough for daily carry. Mine was a stainless model, otherwise, same as the one you are perusing.

Gun Nut, I have and on occasion carry a 445 concealed hammer with a bright stainless finish. The only complaint I've ever had with the gun is its weight. If you try to pocket carry, it will pull your pants down, oswb is the only option as it is very wide for iswb carry. Very accurate with the right load and like the other responder, some handloads have produced some terrible fouling. I like to carry mine with the 180 gr Hornady XTP hollow-points.
One word of caution, once you travel down the snub-nose big bore path you may never return. I've since purchased a Ruger Alaskan in .44 Mag and I really want a 629 sw custom shop three inch.

Is it ported or not?

If not, and you don't decide to buy, please be so kind as to PM me about where it is for sale (assuming it is a place where the public can shop). I have friend here in West WA who is very much trying to find one.

Taurus 445

I have a stainless ported 445. It does have the exposed hammer. For defensive loads I use the Corbon 165 grn. hollowpoints. I shoot 200 gr lead rnfp bullets to get a little shooting in with it. It isn't a lightweight but they do have their titanium models for more money of course. I have a nice leather paddle holster that makes it easy to carry but it is heavy in a pocket other than my heavier winter coat. I did have the cylinder/barrel gap opened and squared slightly and have had no problems since. Good luck.

Here is what i said in my thread. Hope it helps

What are you going to use this gun for? CCW? Bear defence for walking in the woods? The reason i ask is because the 44c is only about half an inch longer and taller than the 445 and you can shoot magnums as well as specials in it. It also has a nice hi viz sight added in. You might also find that the magnums dont kick much and you have a much more powerful gun.

Just dont use the Buff Bore 255 44 spec in it.....

GN,
Negative on the DAO, it was a conventional revolver, DA/SA. +1 on the weight, BTW.
