What do you guys think of the Taurus 85?

I've got a couple of them, and we love them.
I had a friend who had one that gave him fits, but ours have been great.

I've got an old 85 Stainless w/wood grips. Fantastic little gun, haven't had any real problems with it to date.

I'm guessing the newer ones have heavier triggers. I hear that they've got heavy triggers. Mine's from circa-96 and it was the first gun I fired after my broken hand healed (displaced fracture in the 3rd and 4th metacarpal). No problems. I'm not calling BS on your statement, CMC; Just sharing my own experiences.

I have three of them, a 85B2CH, 85B2, and a 85SS2UL. The first two have over 10,000 rounds though them and the UL over 5,000 rounds. Like a Timex® watch they just keep in ticking. (Then again I am a Timex® watch in a digital age, LOL!)

I had a buddy that shot a 44special 5 shot Taurus, I used it several times at our pistol club and it worked just fine. Far as I know he still has it.

I Just bought 2 Taurus 5 Shot Revolvers!

An 85 UltraLite .38 Spl. (My wife adopted it-Really Fast)....Ooh I Like That!....Havent seen it since...

And A 905 9mm (same exact frame) ... My new CC! I absolutely Love these revolvers.

I had a couple of the earlier versions of the 85 and they are just smooth operators! Never a problem.

My 905 has a sweeeeeeeeet 4.5 Lb SA pull!
Very nice trigger!
I can not express how happy I am with these new purchases.

Taurus seems to have a Love-Em or Hate-Em following, myself included. I bought the model 85 after a through inspection from timing and lock-up to cylinder alignment (on every chamber), BC gap, fit and finish, end-play, and barrel alignment. The shop had 3 of them in stock, I kept saying "get me another one" until I found one I liked, it was # 3 of the three they had. I think I've got a good one.

I've put a couple hundere rounds through it. It's shooting a bit left of the point of aim at 25 yards, 2 to 3 inch groups, and correct for height with 120 grainers.

I think it's a keeper.

Nothing wrong with Taurus UL.

Looked at a couple of snubbies - Charter Arms, Taurus, and Ruger LCR. Went with the LCR for the grip. I shot the Charter arms UL and the Taurus UL and when compared to the LCR. I found the LCR easier to shoot and handle. Passed qualifications with it using +p ammo without issue.

I traded a guy a small amount of cash for a stainless 85 which I decided would be my car gun. Took it to the range and was pleasantly surprised to see how accurate it was, and how not-unpleasant to shoot it was. Certainly more comfortable than my LCR and about on par to shoot with my Colt Detective.

Still prefer to carry the LCR, and definitely prefer to look at the Colt :)

I looked at a few before deciding on my Ruger, but they seemed nice. I may still get a Taurus .22 revolver.

I've got a Taurus 85b3 that runs like a champ. I've put a lot of rounds down range with no issues. It has saved my bacon twice against two legged predators without having to fire. It has stopped a couple of rabid animals and a large feral dog.

When needed it does the job without complaint.

Mine is rock solid. I have had it for years. It amazes me at all the people that think they need a S&W snub. Taurus 85 will shoot with the best of the snubs. They may not be as pretty or as smooth. But at the range these are used for. They will stay right beside the higher $$ snubs. You wont go wrong owning/shooting one of these fine weapons.
