Taurus 627 Titanium

Hello, I'm looking at getting a .38/.357 for my next handgun and the Taurus 627 caught my eye. Especially the titanium version being very light and my wife said she'd like to shoot one also so I thought this might be a good gun but when I went to the Taurus website it said the titanium model is discontinued. My questions are how does this gun handle? is it worth getting the titanium over the steel and is it easy to find a titanium even though it's discontinued? Thank you all for your time.

I bought a 627 Tracker Titanium (like new in box) in June for $480 and have enjoyed the gun. Last week it started to shave bullets from the timing being off. Big No No! I sent it off to Taurus to be repaired earlier this week. The gun probably has had 1000 rounds put through it.

It is ported which helps greatly with the recoil, though it does make it quite loud. I was dissapointed with the trigger pull when shooting double action. I really have to squeeze to cycle it through the shot. This hurt my accuracy to say the least! Single action it is more accurate than I am. If I decide to keep this gun I'll probably have a trigger job done on it when I get it back.

I bought the gun in part because it was discontinued and made of titanium. I figured it would appreciate in value with the increasing price for titanium and Taurus' reputation seems to be moving up into one of the more respected gun makers. Also since it has been discontinued, because of the prohibitive cost of Titanium, I figured it would appreciate.

I would stick with the SS versions of Taurus standard sized revolvers. I own a SS 627 and it is far from heavy. Not to mention the recoil in a Ti gun is going to be much worse. Your wife might like the weight, but a couple full 357 mag loads will most likely have her hating the gun.

The grapevine is rarely of real help.

I'm also a SS 627 owner. For a 7 round .357 Magnum with a 4" barrel, it's comparatively light. I do suggest you and your wfe try out both the SS and Titanium guns before you buy.
It's your choice, of course, but unless you plan on carrying this gun regularly, or use it as a backpack gun while hiking, the lighter weight of the Ti revolver may not be worth the increased recoil.

I also have a SS 627 and that gun now is my primary carry..I love it but as said before you should try both before you buy just my .02

I have the Ti617 which is a 2" version of the Titainium 4" 627. It carry's well at .20 ozs. empty. Shoots great too. I think the Ribber grips help a lot.

Gad, those pink grips make my eyes hurt. I only THOUGHT I'd pimped out my Rossi 68, put WHITE pearlite on it.
