I am speaking of the 2" .357 5 shot bodyguard clone with the shoulded hammer. I can get a blued one used in like new shape for $250 OTD so what are opinions on this gun or steel taurus snubbies in .357 or .38 special in general?

The wife and I both carry the 650 which is basically the same the gun with an enclosed hammer. Several thousand rounds thru mine, several hundred thu hers and no problems except when I tried to replace my hammer springs with lighter ones. If I were to do it over again I would get the same gun, but I might go with the satin finish. The blued finish collects finger prints and seems to court rust.

I have the 651 in Stainless. About 1500 rnds thru it at this point. I haven't had any problems with it. The short grip allows it to be concealed very easily. If you want, a set of lasergrips can be fitted to it, but this adds to the grip length a bit. I have the laser grips for mine, but have taken them off and went back to the stock boot grip because it tucks into my side and rides in a pocket better this way. All in all I think mine is comparable to the Smith model in every way. I would reccommend dry firing as this has improved my trigger extensively. I do about 200-500 dry fires a night, altenating hands of course.

I NEED HELP FINDING A LEATHER CONCELD CARRY HOLSTER FOR THE 651, WHAT S&W PISTOL IS CLOSEST IN MODEL? ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

A J-frame holster is usually to small, and a K-frame to large. A holster made for a Colt Detective Special is about right. Of course the best idea is to have a holster custom made to fit the gun, if you can't find a maker that carries such items in stock.

I have carried a Taurus 651 blued for almost a year. MANY rounds sent downrange. Not a single problem.

The only thing I added was the combat grips from Taurus. Gave me a LOT more control and they really didn't change the ability to carry concealed.

Hope this helps.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all the forum members.

Jim

I have a Taurus 650 stainless, a 651 stainless and a 651 titanium, all of them manufactured in 2004. The fit, finish, function and reliability of all of them has been superb. I have a few hundred rounds through each of them by now. I did pull off the stock boot grips and replaced them with the Butler Creek boot grips, which are unfortunately no longer manufactured.

I can afford to buy pretty much any firearm I want, and I have been very pleased with my Taurii. And my experience with holsters has been different than the previous poster; most of the S&W J-frame holsters have worked just fine for me. I have my stainless 651 on right now in a Uncle Mike's Kydex inside the pant holster for the J-frame. Fits like a charm.

I have a 651 titanium which I traded my 642 for and I really like the 651. Shoots well both DA and SA and hit the point of aim every time. Put about 75 mixed rounds through it last Wednesday and no problems. Total round count is about 250. I must admit that I still prefer the Kahr PM9 for carry.

It has occured to me that holsters made for the S&W J-Magnum frame might fit the Taurus 651, where one made for the regular (.38) J-frame wouldn't. The J-Magnum frame is beefed up enough to make the difference. You might check this out with any holster company you might select.

In any case Detective Special holsters will work too, but they're getting harder to find.

i have the 850 cia Ti.

it has had about 300 trouble free rounds through her. it is a pleasure to shoot with its ported barrel, even cor-bons are managable.

i would however trade it for a s&w 642 or 638 or the like, only because my molded holsters fit the J frames, but not the taurus. must be the barrel lug?

Jerry;

The Taurus small frame is slightly larger the the standard J-frame. Holsters made for Colt Detective Special's usually work, and so will ones made for the J-Magnum frame.

figures, i should have gotten some generic holsters............they fit most anything of similar design.

I know this is an dead post, but I'm new and don't know better. I've had a 651 as my carry piece for about two years now and I think it's the perfect balance of weight, size and firepower. I've put well over 1000 rounds though it with almost no issues. The one issue that persists with this weapon is that the set screw for the cylinder release starts backing out after 30-50 rounds. It was easily fixed with a drop of blue loc-tite and hasn't happened again. It's not a real big issue, but it's something you should be aware of when firing the weapon.
