I just bought a Taurus 85 9mm 5 shot and installed a Crimson Trace laser grip to it. The problem is the old rubber tatical ones filled out my hand better, felt more comfortable, and were easier to draw and hold onto. Do I have any options as far as rubber textured stick-on decals, a Hogue grip meant for another gun but might work?, or at last resort having them customized with a layer of rubber w/ texturing and finger placement. Obviously the fact that they split in half and need batteries now and them posses a problem. Custom seems best to me - just do it right. If someone can refer to somewhere who can do this or has another idea please let me know.

I have a M85 that I got at Gander Mountain. It came with CT grips on it and I too wasn't real happy with the hand fit after I shot it a while.. I've taken off the CTs and put on a set of Mono grips. I haven't shot it yet this way so I'm not sure if I'll like it any better that the CTs. I wish that they made the soft rubber grips in the M85 style. It's not my everyday carry piece so its not a thing I have to resolve ASAP. But it is my HD gun and if the Mono's don't work out I'll be putting the CT's back on. Be nice if they offered both styles where possible in their model offerings. Sorry I didn't solve your problem. I you find a solution please post it. Thanks, CraigJS
What about the slip on sleeves that Hogue makes? We'd have to pull them off to change batteries, but that would be somewhat minor..

Denfoote,

:scrutiny: You may not get a chance to AIM and ALIGN the sights, hence you have to POINT or INSTINCT shoot the weapon...the laser allows the shooter to see where the muzzle is pointing on the perpetrator's torso! This type of shooting is a pain in the arsenal to practice at the range, especially without a laser to aid in the point shooting technique. :scrutiny:

Point shoot technique is very valuable and bringing the gun up from a "down" position, pointing and shooting while keeping focused on the target at practical distances is a very realistic way to train for real world situations. I'm sure the laser sights are a nice convenience, but I wouldn't want to rely on them solely. Especially with a "belly gun". It's the last thing I practice when I go to the range so I remember it the best.

Why would you want a laser sight on a snub revolver???

It's predominately a short range weapon, anyway, so methinks the laser sight would be some what superfluous!!!

When did laser sights become a long range system? They're for low light at very short ranges, indoors at night, that sort of thing. Heck, with the naked eye, you can't see 'em at 100 yards, fifty is tough.

My snubbies have all been able to put five rounds into 3-3.5" at 25 yards. Snubbies are quite accurate. They're more accurate than that 3", just that with the short sight radius, it's hard to shoot any better with 'em, for me anyway. I find 'em more accurate than a lot of 1911s I've seen and fired. :D

I don't like lasers on anything, though. The instinctive shooting thing is good to practice, short range, point the gun as if you could see the sights, let it settle and fire. In my little house where max range might be 15 feet, I ain't worried about lasers, nor am I on the street at the average 7.5 yards at which the typical confrontation takes place.

BTW, I really like the "boot grip" my M85UL came with. It carries well, shoots well, and the rubber absorbs some of the slap of heavy +P loads.

Would never rely on them completely. Malfunction or dead batteries... But if used as a "nightstand" gun I believe they could be very usefull. Middle of the night, woken up from sleep, dark bedroom etc.(no kids) They can allow you to shoot from odd body positions, bent over, laying down, from behind cover. Or if the person is not as profiscent as perhaps you or I. (wife home alone..) Take a look at CT's web site they have some "videos" that illustrate what I'm saying.

Well, it seems everyone (other than CraigJS) has an opinion about your actual question. Have you given any thought to ordering a plain sheet of Agrip, or one of the precut ones that would lend itself to the slicing & dicing needed to accomodate your Crimson Trace? You could give the folks who make it a call and discuss your goals. Then just take a hobby knife and make it exactly the way you want it to accomodate the need for battery change, etc.

(I have an 85 too and, although somewhat lower on the priority list, intend to add some Agrip material. If my wife ever wanted to have it around alot it'd probably get a laser as well and I wouldn't hesitate for a second. Stick to your decision if that's what works for you.)
;)

I just couldn't see the need for hooking a laser to a snub!!
I would much prefer TRITIUM sights for dark work!!

Agreed, but I'll say I'd rather have the Tritium sights on ANY size weapon as opposed to a laser. No batteries to replace, no electronics to screw up, and no grip compromises. No switches to turn on, either. I HATE those external rail mount type lasers, worse than bad. At least the Crimson Trace doesn't get in the way of anything.

Thanks for your time on the Taurus 85 but...

:banghead: The only question I asked was if I can improve the grips, and only one person even gave me an idea for that. I mean no disrespect but I did not ask everyones opinion on why its such a waste, and pointless. For the record with a 9mm in the spub its quite a bit more accurate than say a .38 cal. which I have both. Since my post I have fell in love with the piece - it is very accurate up to 30' which if fine for me, and I have read stories where burgularies and robberies were foiled due to the laser. They said "just seeing a red dot on your chest changes everything". I will be honest, if putting a laser on my gun could even possibly stop a shootout or crime its worth it. Thank you for your time and responses, and I did solve the grip issue also.

Smokes,

If you had read to whom my response was addressed {denfoote} then a private message in my box would have been unnecessary...I was answering denfoote's inquiry that he posted!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
