I went to the gun show in Montgomery this past Sat in search of a CZ75D, but there were none to be had. I saw two CZ's; a .32 and a .380. I did see a couple of Baby Eagles, but not what I had in mind.

I also saw the Taurus 92 and really liked it. But, I did go with the intent of getting a CZ, but now I am tossing the idea of the Taurus around.

How close are these two pistols as far as quality, user-friendliness, accuracy, durability, etc?

Which would you chose and why?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

The Taurus 92 is the only Taurus autopistol I'd seriously consider. IMHO, their plastic pistols are dogs due to reliabilty and durability issues.

Personally, I prefer the CZ-75. The Berretta 92 and Taurus 92 just seem to big and heavy for the caliber and number of rounds. I also don't like slide mounted safeties that go UP for "fire."

If it fits your hand though, and you like it, nothing wrong with it. Try to get a good price as they don't hold their value as much as the Berretta for resale.

Try both in your hand. The CZ75 has a very comfortable grip for some people and points very well, but with the Taurus 92, you can use any of the hundreds of holsters and most accessories meant for the Beretta 92, plus toys like the Lasermax internal laser. :D It's extremely reliable, and magazines are inexpensive. I don't know what price CZ75 mags are.

And in reply to the second poster, only the Beretta has a slide-mounted safety. The Taurus PT92 has a frame-mounted safety, and is "down" to fire, which I love, since I can swipe it with my thumb on the draw. The advantage of the size is that you can have 17 rounds in a flushfit magazine, and the weight lets you shoot +P all day with no hand fatigue...recoil is negligable, as is muzzle flip.

I love mine.

The Taurus 92 does not have a slide mounted safety/decocker. It's located on the rear of the frame and is ambidexterous. Up is safe, down is fire and all the way down is decock. That's the biggest reason I bought a Taurus 92 vice the Beretta 92.

CZ75 is also a good pistol, you couldn't go wrong with either one.

That threw me off too. Maybe you meant Beretta 92.

I would pick the CZ between the two. Even though my Taurus 92 is so reliable, so as the CZ and its leaner too. Plus with the CZ, you don't have to worry of the locking block failing.
Better yet, get an XD. :)

I must admit that the CZ feel better in my hand, but the Taurus doesn't feel bad. It just fills my hand up more. I do like the looks of both. I guess the CZ would be easier to conceal too.

I hope to go to the gun show in Birmingham this Sat. so I will see what I can find. I am tired of all the waiting and am ready to get a pistol, but I also want to get something that I will be happy with.

I wish I could get both.

I don't really have any dislike for the XD, but I am just accustomed to a DA pistol.

The Taurus is a good gun and between it and the CZ75 its pretty much a toss up. The CZ actually weighs more than the Taurus or the Beretta by a little over 1 ½ oz. The CZ’s I’ve handled seem to have a smoother DA trigger pull, more on par with the Beretta. The DA trigger pull on the Taurus is generally a bit coarser. If I liked the feel of both pistols the determining factor for me would be price.

I owned both at one time. Both were very close in the accuracy/reliability dept. I sold off the Taurus, only because it felt bigger in the grip and not as comfortable as the CZ-75. If the Taurus grip feels good to you, by all means get the Taurus. it has a lifetime warranty that the CZ does not have. I never expereinced any amlfunctions at all with my Taurus 92...the only reason I got rid of it was the grip size. Quality wise, its the best thing Taurus makes...no doubt...and is a great pistol.

Otherwise, the CZ is a very good pistol and feels very good in the hand. Only the more pricey FN Hi-Power feels better in the grip than the CZ-75. The CZ-75 has a very loyal following and is a very accurate shooter. If the Taurus 92 is too big for your hands, the CZ-75 is a great second choice. Skip the other CZ offerings, just as the Taurus 92 is the only Taurus auto, the CZ-75 is the best offering by this company as far as autopistols go.

Same here I recently aquired a 75B aniversary, I have my Taurus for sale on consignment it is a good quality gun but just can't shoot it as accuratetly as my 75B, I will replace my Taurus stainless with a 75B stainless

I think that the Taurus 92's were around 389 or 399 for the stainless models. I almost went with it, but not sure how it is going to conceal. I have fired the CZ and really like it. The range doesn't have any Taurus guns for rent, so I won't be able to shoot one before I buy.

I guess I will wait and see what they have at the next show.

As previously mentioned, the CZ75 series has BHP-ish ergonomics. But with both the BHP and the CZ75 I find the grip a bit narrow (Front strap to back strap) and I have a little trouble comfortably indexing the heel of my weak hand on the grip. The "big" grip of the Beretta/Taurus/M9 suits my hands much better. YMMV.

FWIW, I just picked my second PT92AF (all black) new for $330 two weeks ago at a gun show. I just couldn't pass it up. I dunno, I fingered a lot of guns and I just like the feel of the 92's - I do have long hands. Also, I still have not come to appreciate polymer frames, although I have noticed that my wife's Storm doesn't seem to heat up as much as my 92.

AFAIK, the new PT92's all have rails and will not fit conventional 92 FS holsters. They will fit most 92 Vertec holsters, though.

Between a PT92 and a CZ75, I personally would not have to think twice; CZ all the way. While the Taurus has proven reliable and effective, it just comes across as rough around the edges (especially when compared to a Beretta 92 FS). I do have a 92 FS and a Baby Eagle, and I prefer to shoot the Baby Eagle-more comfortable and more accurate (for me, anyway). Several of my friends have purchased PT92's and I have not been impressed by them, especially how far back the trigger must be to release the sear.

Why I have an older one instead.

As someone else on this board said "Don't need no rails, ain't got no train." :D

Both are good guns. The 92/99 makes a great range gun but its large size make it a lot harder to conceal. The 75 makes a great range and carry gun.
