I'm new to the world of firearms. So far, I own two Taurus .40 cals and a Ruger .45. What does everyone think of Taurus firearms. I hear a lot of good things and a lot of not so good things

Can't say too much I only have the PT 1911 and the Raging bull in .44 I like the ragging bull and the muzzle break on it but so far I am really impressed with the PT it's really accurate even when compared with my Les and my rock riverand it cost me less than half I mean sure the Les and the Rock River put up smaller groups but not by much for the money.

I had a 24/7 compact that was perfect in every way...except it wouldn't shoot straight. Tried to work it out over several hundered rounds but it never came around for me so I got rid of it. It seems to me as I have looked around that there are some really well made Tauruses (Tauri?) in circulation, and some not so well made in circulation. My experience with other manufacturers has been more pleasant than with Taurus, so I'll probablly stay away from them, but there are many out there who have had good experiences with their guns, so I think it is luck as to whether or not you get a quality piece.

OK I'll be the first dissenter.
There is one company I will never buy from...
...Taurus.

Have had 3 Taurus, PT111, 941 22mag, and 44mag. No problems with 2 wheel guns , but nothing but trouble with pt111. I got rid of it.

I had a PT945 that was a dreadful lemon. In any "what is the worst gun you ever had?" thread, this one is at the top of the list. I never went back. To be fair, this was a long time ago (1995), but I am bad about holding grudges. ;)

We own 12 Taurus handguns. Some are 25+ years old. No problems after literally thousands of rouns through them. The PT101 is my CCW in cold weather.:)

I have the PT 1911 as well. I have been more than impressed with its accuracy. I also like all the options that come on it that you'd have to pay extra for in other manufacturers. The one bad thing I will say is the blued finish on the 1911 is very poor. It rubs off the edges fairly quickly and will probably rub off faster in a holster. My dad shoots a .44 mag and absolutely loves it. I think it probably has a better finish than my 1911. But a buddy of mine had a 24/7 that would barely hit center mass at 7 feet away. So I think it's kind of a toss-up. I think their newer stuff is getting better.

I have owned several Taurus's, I find them to be fine firearms. I will own more Taurus's as I can afford to.

For those certain few that "will never buy from Taurus" ?? They never seem to give a reason?

I've got an early Taurus PT92AF (early 90's) that I have over 30,000 rounds through. I've replaced the DA return spring twice, and the recoil spring once.

I consider that part of maintanence on a well used firearm. Hardly surprising considering the heavy use. It runs clean, accurate, and reliable.

It's still my favorite go to.

I once sold a model 66 .357 that, to this day, I regret selling. Silky, light trigger and it broke like glass.

I'm looking to pick up a PT945 and the PT1911 when I find a deal.

Have owned several Taurus firearms. Liked all of them. The model 66 in .357 is my favorite. It is accurate to the final shot in a group.

I own three--PT-92, PT-25 and a newly purchased 24/7 OSS. Never had a problem and highly recommend them.

-Cheers

Not sure how many, maybe 3 auto loaders, couple 92's and a 945. The wheel guns have been good for me also. Carried a snub, ported .357 for a few years. I've enjoyed all of them.

I have a Taurus 24/7 Pro C in .40 and haven't had any problems with it and it is accurate (once I figured out the Heine sights).

glockman19: Have you ever owned a Taurus? Why did you not like it? Perhaps you prefer a Raven or Jennings.

I have shot them. I prefer S&W, Ruger Beretta & Colt Revolvers. As far as pistols there are so many other, better, manufactured pistols I won't get one. I prefer Kimber, Colt & Springfield, Baer, Brown & Wislon Custom 1911's. In polimer pistol catagory it's Glock, Beretta, Hk & Sig, I might add Khar & Walther to the list as well. I also own a Bersa, my wife's gun and what I'd consider a throwaway.

Raven, Jennigs, Rossi, I won't waste my money or risk my life to third tier firearms manufacturers with poor customer service.

My carry guns are Glock 26 S&W 442/642 & Kimber Ultra. Oh yea...wife relies on the Bersa .380.

I had a 24/7 40 cal. It was tough to shoot. The sights seemed to be off. I tried a few hundred rounds and then gave up.
However, I also have a TRACKER and I love it. Accurate, smooth and fun.
I guess some work, some don't.

I owned one Taurus and that was enough for me.

On another board a poll asked..."what brand do you think is worse"

Results thus far...

1. Other than listed
2. Taurus
3. Lama/Astra

I own a Taurus PT-145 and think it is the best "bang" for the buck. It is small, which makes it very concealable. It holds 10+1 rounds of 45. It is comfortable and easily handled, even for someone like me with a small hand. I shoot it one-handed a lot of the time as I believe the Weaver Stance is great for punching holes in paper but may not be practical in a SD situation, well, unless you can get the perp to hold still for you while you take careful aim. The PT-145 has been a reliable shooter through over 1000 rounds; I carry it most often now. It shoots everything I feed it: my handloads, Remington Golden Sabers, Speer Gold Dots and others. By choice, I only load and shoot 230gr ammo.

As for the naysayers, I can relate. I have owned 4 Chevrolets in my life. 3 were great; the 4th was a lemon³. These were American made. Every forum has members that have shared their problems with just about every make and model of firearms on the market. It happens. Such is life. Many companies that turned out junk found out the hard way that firearms owners sort of like their firearms to be reliable if nothing else. Taurus was one of them; I believe they got most of their problems fixed. I would own another without hesitation.

I find that amusing as well. So far there are 6 nay sayers on Taurus pistols. Whats amusing is only 2 of them actually gave reasons why. One didnt even mention ever owning one, just shooting one(big difference IMO). So OP, take notice of this. This is probably the biggest problem with gun forums. People who rag on certain firearm manufacturers or pistol models rarely give their resons why(coincidince? maybe just regurgitating what they heard?), or it comes down to their "feel" for the gun's ergo's and layout, which is highly subjective.

Ive only owned my Taurus 617 snub nose 357 and it has been 100%. Im looking to add a PT845 as there are very few choices for a high capacity 45, with a DA/SA action, an accessory rail and the ability to carry cocked and locked.
