The wife really liked the feel of the taurus snubbys in her hand. So, I purched online a new in box Taurus Model 605B 357 Mag for $235 to a local FLL (actually, I need to find one, but have a good list of them)

Did I do okay on the price? I prefer stainless, but at this price, I thought I could not go wrong. I will start her on 38 special, and then after she gets comfortable, I will move her up to the 357, and then the magnums

Yep, that's a great price in my neck of the woods..

Hello: I bought a Taurus mod 605 in SS and paid $305 for mine.

What I really like about the mod 605 is it is on a mod 85 frame, which makes it J-framed size.

For easier carry, I simply pulled the shorter mod 85 stock grips off my own 85, transplanted them to the mod 605 and bought rosewood grips for the 85.

I had no problem shooting the 605 with the shorter grip, even with full-pressure .357 loads.

I found the 605 had a good trigger and was 100% reliable.
You made a fine choice.

lots of recoil!!

the 605 is a fine revolver if what you need is .357 for SD but be prepared for the recoil with 357mag loads. Mine is all SS, heavy, so recoil is better than with a lightweight, but still pretty awsome.
I actually like my 85Multi better, with +p 38spec loads the recoil is more managable.
FWIW,

The 605 is indeed a good gun.
It is also, shall we say, punishing, to shoot with full power loads!!!!
IMHO, changing the grip length from the longer was a mistake!!!
Mine has the original grips.
It is less punishing!! :)

Yeah, the 605 will turture your hands. I'm a reloader so I've come up with a good managable recipe for it. I wouldn't shoot factory stuff in my 605. In a heated situation, you might not win.

I just got a 650 and I didn't find it that bad to shoot, even with the boot grips, I didn't run any of the super hot .357 so maybe I'll change my tune after that. I am going to order some of the larger grips fom Taurus becaus the boot grips don't give you much to grab a hold of when the gun is IWB. I loke the boot grips for pocket carry and in the winter I will put them back on.

Good price! I HAD one, but traded out. Mine locked up on the 65th round that I shot and I never felt"good" about it after i had it fixed. Is yours the newer short grip? Non-ported?

Mr. Tettnanger

You got a great deal on a great gun. I run 125 grain Gold Dots through mine and the recoil is not bad at all.
