I found a Taurus model 83 revolver in 38 special that a guy wants to sell for $150. It has a clean bore and the finish is about 85-90%. It looks up fine and has a smooth DA trigger and a pretty crisp SA. How are these revolvers and is this a decent deal?

Thanks,

Ash

Run it through the revolver checkout stickied at the top of the forum. If it passes, I'd say it's OK. I think this particular model has been discontinued.

I bought the stainless version new back in '95 for my wife. It is an excellent firearm in fit and finish and very accurate. These are fairly close in appearence and size to the S&W 15(blue or nickle) and 67(SS). It has been discontinued for some time.

If it checks out, that is a reasonable price for a decent gun.

I agree to put it through the revolver check out at the top of the Revolver forum. Any new or used revolver should go through it. If it passes, it should be fine.

The Taurus 83 seems to be an adjustable sight version of the 82. It is a basic, but solid, medium frame .38spl along the lines of the S&W M15/67 (adjustable sight versions of the S&W M10/64). It should make a fine gun, though if it is an older Taurus the trigger may not be great. My first handgun was a Taurus 82, it always went bang and was as accurate as a new shooter could hope to be- selling it was a huge mistake (I didn't think I'd own many handguns and I bought a medium frame .357mag so I sold it thinking I didn't "need" it).

The price seems decent.

Trigger was fine, not as light as my Trooper III, but smooth. It passed the tests as well as a Ruger Police Service Six I have. Though it is the same size as that Ruger, and only in 38 whereas that Ruger is a 357...well, why not? I'm going to check on it this afternoon.

Came over from TFL to see if things are okay. One obligatory range report please? That is if you get it.:)
