Realizing trigger pull is a personal, somewhat nebulous thing.......FOR YOU, which revolver you've shot has the best stock trigger in both SA and DA?

For me, it was a Smith model 629. I was just blown away with the absolute silky smooth DA and the incredible feathery-light SA pull.

For a small gun, believe it or not, my Taurus mod 85 Ultralite had an excellent SA-DA trigger.

Still, I've never never experienced anything as factory fine as the 629.

It would be interesting to see if a particular model shows up a fair number of times :D

SW686+ I bought back in 1998. The newer ones are kind of inconsistent. Some good, some suck. The trigger parts are not being well fitted on newer guns.

This one:

Performance Center 625 "Miculek"

Not that I didn't make a few "improvements" after I got it out of it's case.

For DA it was a current-production PC 66 F-Comp. Only box-stock revolver I've ever pulled the DA trigger on and gotten no front sight bounce.

For SA you can pretty much take your pick of any S&W or any Colt Python. I can only remember picking up one (a new 5" 686+) that had an imperfect SA pull. That's what I love about fine wheelguns, perfect SA triggers out of the box.

BTW,
The trigger parts are not being well fitted on newer guns.
They aren't being fitted at all, that's the whole point of metal injection molding.

I agree with Joe. My 625 PC (Miculek) gun has a great trigger. Smooooth. Of course, that's cheating a little since its a "custom" stock gun from the factory.

My 3" 65-3 has the best trigger i've tried, next up would be my 3" 24-3.
They both have very smooth D/A with a crisp S/A.I bought both used so i don't know if they've had trigger work done to them.

22 luvr: My Smith & Wesson 5" 629-5 is awfully sweet
its-self; but I've had some model 19's that were about
as good as it get's. Some other sweet K-frames that
come to mind are: .22 LR caliber model 18, .38 Special
caliber model 14, and a .38 caliber model 15; with
several .38 caliber model 10's being not far behind!

Joe Hatley: mighty fine looking piece there my friend!:D

I agree with other posters that older-production revolvers had far superior trigger pulls in comparison to many modern guns. However, leaving out gunsmith-tuned triggers, Performance Center production, and older weapons, what about modern revolvers?

In my somewhat limited experience buying new revolvers (I like older weapons! :D ), I've found that the new S&W's are measurably less smooth and easy than earlier models. I suspect it's the new methods of production (MIM) that do it.

On the other hand, I've been very pleasantly surprised by Ruger revolvers in the last couple of years. I've handled several SP101's, GP100's, Redhawks and Super Redhawks, and uniformly their trigger pull (DA and SA) has been markedly superior to what it used to be. I don't know what Ruger's done to their production line, but in my experience, it's worked well! One Redhawk .44 Magnum trigger was so nice it made me buy the gun... easily gunsmith-quality.

Taurus triggers seem to be a "hit-or-miss" proposition: one gun will have a nice, smooth pull, the next will be rough or lumpy.

I just bought a Taurus Mod 651 Protector which is the one with the close cropped bobbed hammer that can be D/A or S/A. One of the reasons I bought it, besides the relatively low purchase price, was how remarkably smooth the trigger action is. I can't see how it could be much better. A wecome addition to my growing collection. John
