I took a new job and now I have to dress up a little. My glock is too big to carry all the time so I was wondering if you had a glock sitting at home would you trade it for either a new taurus .357 ultralite or a S&W 642. I thinking I might want a pocket snubbie to carry all the time. What do you guys think? I've tried to carry the glock but it's too hot here and I just can't manage the "tuckable" iwb all day long. Any help would be great.

Ideally, obviously, keep the Glock if you can. I would go for the S&W. I guess I'm a little biased, but every Taurus I've ever picked up or shot, didn't do it for me as the S&W's did.

I've had a Taurus 85 for a couple of years now and have had no problems whatsoever with it. Just bought a Millenium PT 145 (getting the trigger smoothed up a little) but I have found both to be very reliable and shoots well.

The wife and I both carry Taurus 650's and have never had a problem with them, but I don't think I'd want to try a 357 out of one of those ultralight jobs.

Never get rid of a gun unless it is unreliable - you will regret it down the road.

That being said, I own the following Smith's and Tauri; S&W 317 Kit Gun, 637, 640, 66, Taurus 627, Taurus Mil Pro PT145, Taurus PT22.

The Smith 66 and 640 were pre-agreements and did not need any trigger work as they were very smooth and nice to begin with. The 637 needed some help but now feels great. The 317 went back to the factory twice for cylinder chamber problems and once to the smithy for action work.

When the Taurus 627 first came out, I bought one and had trouble with the cylinder locking up during double taps. Never could work out the issue and got rid of it. A few years later, the bug got into me again to buy one because of the size, weight and capacity. Second time around, there have been no issues and the stock trigger is better than any new stock S&W that I have tried off the shelf (i.e. 637, 317) (I bet if you dry fire the Taurus versus the Smith, side by side, you will like the Taurus better). The 145 and PT22 have been flawless as well.

I almost got the Taurus 85UL instead of the 637 but I could not pass up on the deal on the Smith for $327 versus $300 for the Taurus (plus I already had J frame grips laying around).

Bottom line, I think either choice you will come out fine. Just go with the one that appeals more to you whether that be $'s or looks or both. I agree that a .357 will be a bit much in the UL. Shooting .357's in my all steel 640 are not that much fun but doable. In a lighter gun.......

Ric,

What are you doing to have your 145 smoothed up and who is doing it?

Whatta ya mean hot:confused: ;)

Keep the Glock.
Use the Glock.
Enjoy the Glock.

Buy a Taurus. Variety is the spice of life.

Im kinda worried about the second picture of that revolver above.:scrutiny:

I own several Taurus wheelguns and have always had very good luck with them. My current carry gun is a 606 2 1/2" ported .357. I also own several J frame Smiths. So...........if you can get a S&W for close to the same price as the Taurus... go for the Smith. I also own a 642 and it's a very nice gun. You can't go wrong with a Smith.

Don't be, it was taken slightly offset with a tripod, photo timer and a digital camera with a turnable LCD. NO BODY PARTS were ever in line with the gun. I guess I should have put a disclaimer in the heading.

Thanks

for the input guys. Hey Lennyjoe I know arizona is hotter but I'm 6' and go about 250lbs so Vermont would be hot for me! I am leaning towards the Taurus line because of price and all the great comments. I did have a Taurus 85ulch at one time(for the wife but she did'nt like it so I traded it for a Kahr mk9) it was a very nice gun, never any problems, but for myself I think I would like a da/sa concealed hammer for practice and carry. I think I will stick with the .38 +p because I don;t enjoy shooting my colt python with .357's for very long so .38 is probably the better fit. Steelhead I know I'll regret selling it at some point I always do when I sell, but I have several others for range time that I would never sell. Thanks for the advise though, I know you're right. Once again thanks all.
