Has anyone had an experience good or bad with the Taurus PT 111 Generation 2? I had an early model Millenium Pro for a while and liked it very much. I need something smaller for a carry weapon and am thinking about getting a Generation 2 from Buds.Comments are welcomed.

I have 2 of them, one SS, both are 100% reliable and as accurate as can be.

I run full pressure jacketed Longshot loads through both, I've probably put something like 3K + through each of them, still going strong. I like hem, very good firearms IMO.

I had a PT111 Gen. 3 and while it was a decent enough gun I never warmed up to it all that much and eventually sold it. I think it was that the grip angle was too straight up and down and I never felt comfortable holding it; made it feel like the gun was pointing too low when I tried to get the sights on target.

The PT 111 has only been made in 2 generations. I had the original Millennium PRO and really liked it. Why I don't have it any more is a long sad story.I am getting a generation 2 because "Buds" has a price I can't refuse. Bannockburn:Maybe you are thinking of a Glock Gen3. They have a weird grip angle to some people.

No it was definitely a Taurus PT111 and it was a Third Generation Model. I believe there were actually four distinct model variations in the PT series (thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=248632). The gun itself just felt like there wasn't any forward rake to the grip design; that it was too straight and vertical.

Bannockburn is correct. There were three generations of the original PT111. After the first gen has issues they were corrected with the second gen and designated with the added "MilPro". The third gen added a restrike capability. The current PT111 G2 is, if anything, the first gen of the G2.

I apologize for questioning your PT 111 knowledge. My 1st Taurus was a PT 111 Millennium Pro. I guess what they now call Generation 2 is 2nd Generation Millennium Pro. I do know that the magazines in the original PT 111 won't fit the PRO or the Generation 2 PT 111. Mine has been shipped and should be at the FFL on Monday. i hope I enjoy it as much as I did my previous Taurus.Thank you all for the comments.:)

Lots of folks get mixed up on the generation thing to begin with and then Taurus calls the new one "G2" on top of all that.

I think you will find your G2 to be an excellent pistol.

I'm far from a Taurus fan, however due to a few positive reviews and the incredibly low price, I picked up a PT111 G2 last year. I'm fortunate enough to have several choices from Sigs to HKs to Walthers, etc. to shoot/carry. I have to say that my experience with this pistol through 800-900 rounds of mixed FMJs & HPs has been flawless. I am both amazed and surprised with regard to accuracy and reliability. My only complaint (as with Glocks) is with the plastic sights. The front can be replaced with a metal Glock sight but I've not found a solution for the rear. Regardless, the gun has been a very pleasant surprise to date.

Bought the G2 Millinnium a year and a half ago, wanting something similar to my G26, only slimmer and not giving up capacity. It shoots great, and I have been trying to come up with a good holster solution.

Took the wife shooting last October, her shooting her Gen2 G19. She likes it OK, so I had her try the Taurus. I had to pry it from her hands, and now she owns a nice Taurus, and I have 2 Gen2 G19's again. She is very comfortable and confident with the Taurus, and it really fits her hand well. Great pistol, has been flawless through 500+ rounds.

When I sold my PT111 I was still interested in finding a compact 9mm. Checked out most everything from Glock, Springfield Armory, CZ, and S&W but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. Then one day a guy shooting next to me at the range asked me to put some rounds on target with his Ruger SR9c as he was having trouble getting anything close to resembling a nice tight grouping. I loaded up 5 rounds and put all 5 in the black at around 35 feet. That sold me on the Ruger as I really liked the overall design ergonomics, the way the gun felt in my hand, and how quickly the sights could be acquired. Went with the stainless model and have been very satisfied with my choice.

Yes, I've seen those Bud prices on the G2 and I can feel myself falling. :) The series of PT 111 before the G2 would occasionally get a bad review now and then, but not much bad is being said about the G2. The occasional problem that slips through the cracks, maybe, but that's it. If they make a G2 version of the PT 145, I'll buy it.

I'll remain a skeptic until I see more info, but I'm starting to think Taurus may have turned a bit of a corner in quality control. I'm seeing quite a bit fewer complaints these days about new Taurus pistols.

I'll have to check in with an acquaintance of mine that owns a high-volume gun shop. Three or so years ago, Taurus was far and away the brand with the highest percentage of guns brought back by customers due to defects. Maybe things are changing. It sounds like their customer service is also less nightmarish than it once was.

Just my random observations, not specific to the PT-111. :)

I own a Shield, Sig P238, and P238. I EDC the Taurus PT111 Mil. G2. IMHO, it fits my hands better, has better ergos, (vs the Shield) the slide and Slide Stop is easier to manipulate, it's lightweight, it's almost as thin as my Shield but holds 12+1 9mm, and it's been equally as reliable for $180 - $400 less than many of it's competitors. It's a great pistol, and sadly, I truly believe that if this same exact pistol had S&W, Glock, or Ruger etched into the slide and sold for $200 more, it'd probably would get the respect it deserves.

I was on the fence between the PT 111 Gen 2 and a Shield. After reading mostly positive reviews and checking my saving account, I went with the Taurus. Now if the FFL opens so UPS can deliver it-I will head to the range and give an after action report to my THR friends.:)

The use of the term "Generation" or "Gx" as it applies to the original series of the PT111 was not a term used by Taurus, but slapped on it by users in forums. When Taurus chose to apply "G2" to the newest version it seems to have caused a lot of confusion.

None of the below applies to the current model marked "G2" by Taurus

From the Taurus forum:

Which generation of the Millennium series do I have?
Since this question seems to arise more and more often, here is a copy of Cimarron's post from the FAQs section.

First Generation

The guns were marked only as Millennium
All were DAO

Second Generation

The guns were marked as Millennium Pro

Magazines were modified and will not interchange with First Generation models

Third Generation

The word "Pro" was moved from the left side where it read "Millennium Pro" to the right side where it reads "PT145 Pro"
The sights are dovetailed into the slide rather than screw mounted
The guns are now SA/DA rather than the traditional DAO

I've seen that info at the Taurus forum. Having owned a second gen PT111 MilPro and a third gen I can say that the second gen is truly a DAO with no restrike. I kind of take issue with their description of the third gen as a SA/DA. While there is now a nice crisp single action trigger the DA trigger only comes into play in the event of a restrike. There is no way for the first shot to be DA. I guess it would be accurate to say that it isn't traditional SA/DA.

I too..

Was hesitant to ever buy a Taurus product until recently. My lgs got a bunch of millenium g2 111's in. I would of never been interested but they said they were $200.00. I got mine for $212.00 otd. I couldnt pass it up thinking even if it wasn't 100%, I could totally get my money back on the secondary market.

But just with my short experience with it and a couple hundred rounds, I have been extremely impressed. Yeah the trigger is a little different to get used to. A little to much over travel but the break is fine. Not as crisp as a glock but in line with xd's. Fit and finish is solid.

If I can get several hundred more rounds through this thing and it continues to be problem free, I have no problem adding this thing to my carry rotation.

In line with what other posters have said, if this gun has a different name stamped on it, I think a ton more people would have them. For anyone that wants one go for it, they're worth a try at current prices.

After action report on G 2 PT 111

I love that little pistol. It is a near perfect carry weapon. I have put a variety of ammo through it with zero hiccups. It feels so natural in my hand and shoots more accurately than I can. I know some people look down at Taurus-But I will put it up against a lot of guns that are double it's cost. I am not sorry at all that I bought it. Bud's has been sold out of them in both 9 & 40 since right after I got mine for $249.

The DAO "second generation" PT-111 was my first carry gun.

I was happy to trade it in for the "third generation" SA/DA 2nd strike, which has been my primary carry since. 100% reliable, light, accurate in my hands. I carry it in a Don Hume pancake and a cover garment. Sometimes I forget it's there.

I'm not sure I'm seeing what the new G2 has to offer over what I already have.

Style?
