Just bought one of the Taurus 1911s a few weeks ago and I absolutely love the thing. It comes with two 8-round magazines, so it's not like I DESPERATELY need more, however I'd like to have six or seven laying about for a rainy or fall-outy day. I checked out a couple of my dad's surplus (7-round) 1911 mags in it recently and, while they fit, they were a bit too snug and tough to remove. Anybody know if most standard aftermarket 1911 mags work in the Taurus, or do I have to stick with factory mags?

From what I've read they say chipmcormick or wilson makes a good all around magazines, 8 rounders.

If this thing will ever be anything more than a range gun then invest in a couple of the Wilson 47D mags. Money well spent and will last a lifetime. The Factory Taurus mags are pretty good though, definetly not cheap junk.

Not to hijack this thread (I think thats what it's called) but I am looking at a Taurus PT1911B. Just nice to see that someone has one and likes it.

the chip mccormick mags are squared away and they will serve you well for a long time, and they are really reasonalblypriced as well.

Great, thanks for the info.

Zedhead, I was the proud owner of a Para-Ordnance SSP 1911 for about 22 hours (long story), and I think the Taurus is every bit the gun that the Para is, for substantially less money. The only thing I've changed about my Taurus is the grips, only because I think 1911s require wood ones.

A lot of people absolutely swear by the Wilson mags. I believe the ones that come with the Tauri are brazillian made copies of ACT-MAG mags. I haven't heard of Chip Mccormick but if they are as reliable as the Wilsons and cheaper I'll have to give them a try.

McCormicks aren't bad. I have used them in the past with complete satisfaction. They are cheaper than Wilsons, but not dramatically so.

Chip McCormick and Wilson 47D mags are the best IMO. Tripp's Cobra mags are reported to be very good also but I've yet to use it yet.

For 7 rounders for that flat fit, my favorite goes to the Colt factory magazines. Unbelieveably good magazines. :)

I use Chip Mcormick shooting star mags in my PT1911. They fit and function fine. I also replaced the grips with wooden grips and replaced the slide release with an extended version. Good gun at a good price.

I've sworn by my Wilsons for a while now. I've even known them to solve problems I had using other mags of lesser quality.
Really depens on what you're looking for from your Taurus....what kind of mags does Taurus provide? How much if you bought the stock mag from Taurus?
