My Taurus PT 809C came with a sweet SA trigger and a DA pull that felt like a rusty gate with some sand thrown in for good measure, also, the mag release was next to impossible to operate. So I took it apart as I do with almost all of my new firearms. Some 400 grit sand paper and some polishing compound on a felt wheel (judiciously used) makes a wonderful difference.
My problem is that I can't get it back together! The spring that I think is my mag release spring won't fit between the frame and the mag release button. I've tried it both ways, spring first and button first and there just isn't room! Almost but not quite!
I found the sticky - Series 800 Complete Slide & Frame Disassembly - Pictorial Guide
It is excellent but doesn't solve my problem and the Taurus breakdown schematic is no help either, it is too small to be of any use.
My spring looks slightly different than the spring in the Series 800 Complete Slide & Frame Disassembly, but (I rationalize) he is using a full size 809 and mine is the compact model or there might have been a change on the assembly line. My spring has an additional “piece” on one leg, but it fits the mag release perfectly, and other than the extra “piece” it looks identical. Actually the extra “piece” would make the spring sit flatter and wobble less.
All the other springs have been put in various assemblies and they appear to work OK. Only these two are left.
I'm including 2 pictures, in the one with 2 springs, the suspected mag release spring is the spring next to the mag release, the other spring (with the hook on it) appears to be the trigger spring. I don't want to file out the frame, even though the mag release was very stiff and was possibly binding. I have found out the hard way that modifications like that shouldn't be necessary.
Have I mixed up my springs?
Someone out there has the answer!
I posted this on the Taurus forum and got no answer. THR is the place to go now because it simply is the best!
TIA, Waterbaby

I don't know anything about these guns but if the size of the schematic is the problem I might have a suggestion. I sometimes take pictures of things with my phone & then enlarge them on it to make them easier to see. I have reached the age where I have to find ways to work around my eyesight.

take a look at this thread

http://www.taurusarmed.net/forums/2...mag-catch-spring-installed-wrong-factory.html

That is me that found the magizine release was a bear to use and I found that it was installed wrong at the factory. After disassembly and polish it is much much better. Anyways mine was a 45 g2 compact but that spring looks odly the same. Take a look at the pictures I show in the above link and it should get you squared away.

Thanks!

Thank you yamaha! Yours is the only reply to my post.
The spring just will not fit between the mag release button and the frame w/o binding and I have tried every other position of the spring. Nothing else would work. I tried it like your post suggested and that didn't work either.
I called Taurus and they wouldn't tell me how the spring fits but would fix it for $35, include all the expense of shipping a gun through an FFL and it comes to a sizable figure. My fear is that they would consider all the parts I polished "bad", replace them and then I'd be back where I started with hours of work gone.
Seem to have run low on options, I'll call our local gunsmith to see if he can help, if not I'll slightly relieve the backside of the mag release button keeping my fingers crossed!
